Role Context
The BIM GIS Specialist will connect engineering models with geospatial information to create a coordinated digital environment for infrastructure planning, construction, asset tracking, and operational handover. The role combines BIM coordination, spatial data management, model federation, geodatabase administration, survey integration, and asset information delivery. Accurate integration between model geometry and real-world coordinates will help reduce interface conflicts, improve utility coordination, support site planning, and create dependable digital records for future asset management.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead BIM and GIS coordination activities across multidisciplinary project workstreams.
- Develop, manage, and maintain integrated BIM and GIS data environments.
- Coordinate engineering models, spatial datasets, asset information, and survey records across project teams.
- Ensure BIM and GIS information is accurately georeferenced and aligned with approved coordinate systems.
- Implement project BIM, GIS, information management, and data quality standards.
- Review BIM models and GIS datasets for completeness, accuracy, consistency, and compliance with project requirements.
- Coordinate with BIM Managers, GIS teams, Design Consultants, Contractors, Survey personnel, and engineering disciplines.
- Support configuration and use of the approved Common Data Environment for BIM and GIS information exchange.
- Manage spatial databases, geodatabases, GIS layers, metadata, and associated asset information.
- Perform spatial data processing, validation, analysis, visualization, and quality assurance.
- Integrate CAD, BIM, GIS, survey, field, and asset information into coordinated project datasets.
- Support data conversion and interoperability between engineering and geospatial platforms.
- Develop GIS maps, dashboards, spatial analysis outputs, and visualization products for technical and management use.
- Federate multidisciplinary BIM models and coordinate them with GIS datasets.
- Identify spatial conflicts between utilities, infrastructure, existing assets, and proposed works.
- Support clash detection and interface resolution across BIM and GIS environments.
- Coordinate with Survey teams to verify project benchmarks, control points, coordinates, and spatial references.
- Validate model and GIS information against approved drawings, survey records, site conditions, and as-built information.
- Support field data collection and integration of GPS, survey, and construction observations.
- Develop and maintain infrastructure and asset location databases.
- Support asset information requirements for commissioning, handover, and long-term operations.
- Maintain BIM and GIS information throughout design, construction, testing, commissioning, and handover.
- Provide technical support and guidance to project teams on BIM and GIS requirements.
- Develop improved workflows, templates, standards, and data validation processes.
- Identify opportunities for automation and greater digital integration between engineering platforms.
- Prepare BIM and GIS dashboards, progress visualizations, reports, and management presentations.
- Maintain issue logs, data quality records, coordination reports, model review registers, and spatial data inventories.
Airport / Infrastructure and Airfield Responsibilities
- Coordinate BIM and GIS information for airport terminals, runways, taxiways, aprons, roads, drainage, utilities, buildings, and external infrastructure.
- Develop and maintain airport and airfield GIS datasets.
- Integrate airport asset and infrastructure data within enterprise GIS environments.
- Support spatial coordination of underground utilities and existing infrastructure.
- Maintain GIS information for roads, pavements, drainage, lighting, signage, utilities, and other airport assets.
- Integrate BIM models with airport-wide GIS and asset management systems.
- Manage spatial information across airside and landside environments.
- Support construction planning through BIM and GIS visualization.
- Provide spatial analysis for access planning, logistics, sequencing, work zones, and temporary facilities.
- Support integration of construction progress and as-built information into final BIM and GIS datasets.
- Ensure airport coordinate reference systems, survey controls, and geospatial requirements are correctly applied.
BIM Responsibilities
- Review and coordinate models produced by different disciplines and Design Consultants.
- Support multidisciplinary model federation and coordination.
- Check models against the approved BIM Execution Plan and Employer 's Information Requirements.
- Monitor naming conventions, classifications, parameters, Levels of Development, Levels of Information, and data requirements.
- Support BIM audits and model quality assurance reviews.
- Track coordination issues and verify timely resolution.
- Support integration of models with project schedules and controls where required.
- Coordinate BIM information needed for commissioning, handover, and asset management.
- Provide 3D visualization support for design, construction, and coordination reviews.
GIS Responsibilities
- Develop and administer project geodatabases.
- Maintain spatial layers covering utilities, infrastructure, roads, buildings, pavements, drainage.
- Perform spatial analysis, geoprocessing, and validation.
- Produce maps, dashboards, drawings, and geospatial reports.
- Manage coordinate systems, projections, metadata, and spatial standards.
- Integrate GPS, survey, CAD, BIM, satellite, imagery, and field data into GIS.
- Perform georeferencing, editing, transformation, conversion, and quality control.
- Support GIS-based asset tracking and infrastructure management.
- Maintain metadata and traceability for spatial datasets.
Digital Information and Data Management
- Support interoperability between BIM, GIS, CDE, document management, and asset management systems.
- Ensure project information is structured and accessible according to approved information requirements.
- Support digital handover and final asset information delivery.
- Coordinate information requirements between Design, Construction, Commissioning, and Operations teams.
- Develop dashboards and visualization tools to improve management visibility.
- Identify opportunities to automate BIM and GIS workflows and strengthen information quality.
Ideal Profile
The position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Geomatics, GIS, Civil Engineering, Architecture, Information Technology, Surveying, or a related discipline, supported by at least 8 years of relevant experience.
Candidates should have strong experience in BIM, GIS, geospatial information management, infrastructure data coordination, or a combination of these areas within major airport, transportation, infrastructure, or multidisciplinary construction projects.
Practical experience integrating BIM and GIS information is essential.
Candidates should understand both model-based coordination and geospatial data management sufficiently to resolve interface, coordinate, and data consistency issues across complex projects.
Strong proficiency in Autodesk Revit, Civil 3D, Navisworks, AutoCAD, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, or equivalent platforms is expected.
The successful candidate should understand BIM Execution Plans, Employer 's Information Requirements, Common Data Environments, model coordination, coordinate reference systems, survey data, georeferencing, spatial databases, and digital information management.
Experience with underground utility mapping and infrastructure GIS is highly desirable.
Airport or airfield GIS and asset information experience would provide an additional advantage.
Knowledge of ISO 19650 is beneficial.
Experience with Python, Dynamo, FME, or similar automation tools would further strengthen the profile.
