Overview

The Structural Specialist – Design Services supports design services across major heavy civil, rail, metro, transit, and transportation infrastructure projects in Riyadh. The role reviews design submissions, technical calculations, construction documents, contractor submittals, and infrastructure‑related structural deliverables to ensure design compliance, technical accuracy, and multidisciplinary coordination.

Key Responsibilities

• Review project standards, specifications, drawings, calculations, design reports, and technical documents to confirm alignment with project objectives and approved requirements.
• Assess design‑build submissions, operating manuals, technical deliverables, structural drawings, and engineering reports for compliance with client specifications and project standards.
• Review contractor submittals covering materials, construction methodologies, subcontractor prequalification documents, technical proposals, and related construction submissions.
• Support the Lead Civil Engineer and Senior Structural Engineers with technical reports, investigations, root‑cause analysis, engineering status reports, and design review summaries.
• Assist in monitoring scope compliance, project budgets, design schedules, deliverable progress, and engineering commitments.
• Provide structural engineering support to multidisciplinary teams including architectural, MEP, civil, construction, project controls, and site delivery groups.
• Coordinate with clients, contractors, subcontractors, consultants, and internal teams to support timely delivery of structural design and engineering activities.
• Attend inspections, testing, witness activities, acceptance reviews, installation demonstrations, and site verification sessions when required.
• Review and respond to Requests for Information related to structural engineering, design coordination, technical discrepancies, and construction interface matters.
• Provide practical technical support to construction sites and help resolve design‑related issues that may affect safety, quality, constructability, or progress.
• Identify design discrepancies, structural risks, technical challenges, incomplete documentation, and coordination gaps.
• Recommend sound engineering solutions based on structural mechanics, foundation design principles, site conditions, codes, and project constraints.
• Participate in safety meetings and support reviews of proposed materials, construction systems, and installation methods.
• Check that structural deliverables consider geotechnical information, foundation requirements, durability, maintainability, and construction sequencing.
• Support design coordination for heavy civil structures, transportation infrastructure, foundations, retaining systems, bridges, transit elements, and related structural assets.
• Maintain clear technical records, review comments, action logs, approval status updates, and coordination notes for assigned structural workstreams.

Ideal Profile

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Minimum 8 years of experience in engineering design, structural review, and construction support.
• Proven experience supporting the design and delivery of major heavy civil, infrastructure, rail, metro, transit, or transportation projects.
• Strong understanding of structural mechanics, structural engineering design practices, geotechnical engineering principles, and foundation design.
• Ability to review structural drawings, calculations, technical reports, design‑build submissions, contractor submittals, and construction methodologies.
• Experience using structural analysis and design platforms such as ETABS, SAFE, STAAD.Pro, Revit, CAD, WALLAP, Oasys Slope, TEDDS, SuperSTRESS, FEM, or similar tools.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD and related engineering design software.
• Experience working on rail, metro, transit, transportation infrastructure, bridges, foundations, retaining structures, or major civil works is preferred.
• Previous experience in Saudi Arabia or the wider GCC region is advantageous.
• Familiarity with Saudi Building Codes, local authority requirements, and regional regulatory expectations is preferred.
• Strong analytical ability with practical problem‑solving skills and sound technical judgment.
• Excellent coordination skills with the ability to work across civil, architectural, MEP, construction, project controls, client, and contractor teams.
• Detail‑oriented approach with the ability to identify discrepancies, review complex documents, and support timely engineering decisions.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to prepare comments, technical notes, review summaries, and clear engineering responses.
