Job summary

Mott MacDonald is seeking a Senior Transport Planner to join our Riyadh office to lead a diverse portfolio of transport planning projects. You will work with clients, multidisciplinary teams, and sub‑consultants, taking responsibility for project management, commercial performance, and technical delivery.

You will mentor junior staff, contribute to business development, and strengthen our market presence in the GCC region while delivering high‑quality transport solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Transportation or Civil Engineering is required.
• MSc in Transport Planning or related discipline is preferred.
• Experience managing transport planning projects within GCC region.
• Strong client management and stakeholder engagement skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor junior team members and review work prior to submission.
• Prepare technical and financial proposals and support business development.
• Manage medium-sized transport planning projects and assume PM responsibilities.
• Act as primary client contact and respond to project requirements and queries.
• Manage project budgets, invoicing, contracts, and performance.
• Coordinate and manage sub-consultants on assigned projects.
• Apply project management methodologies and share knowledge for continuous improvement.
• Support resource planning and team utilisation.

About the role

Mott MacDonald is seeking a Senior Transport Planner to join our Riyadh office. In this role, you will support the delivery of a diverse portfolio of transport planning projects while contributing to business development activities and strengthening our market presence across the region.

You will work closely with clients, multidisciplinary teams, and sub‑consultants, taking responsibility for project management, commercial performance, and technical delivery. This is an excellent opportunity to lead projects, mentor junior team members, and play a key role in delivering high‑quality transport planning solutions.

Key responsibilities and duties are listed, but not limited to, the below:

• Lead and mentor junior team members, providing guidance and reviewing work prior to submission.
• Prepare technical and financial proposals and support business development initiatives.
• Manage medium‑sized projects, assuming Project Manager responsibilities and ensuring successful delivery.
• Act as the primary client contact, responding to project‑related requirements and queries.
• Manage project budgets, invoicing, contracts, and commercial performance to ensure successful outcomes.
• Coordinate and manage sub‑consultants across assigned projects.
• Apply sound judgment and initiative to resolve complex project challenges.
• Implement Mott MacDonald project management methodologies and best practices on live projects.
• Support resource planning activities to ensure projects are appropriately staffed and team utilisation is maintained.
• Support continuous improvement and digital ways of working, sharing knowledge and lessons learned.
• Demonstrate safe, ethical and inclusive behaviours aligned to Mott MacDonald values.
• Bachelor’s degree in Transportation Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Relevant transport planning experience within the GCC region.
• Proven experience managing transport planning projects and delivering successful outcomes.
• Strong client management and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Highly competent in Synchro and HCS.
• Experience managing project finances, commercial aspects, and contracts.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively to solve complex challenges.
• Experience making sound judgments on complex and sensitive issues.
• MSc in Transport Planning, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Membership of a professional institution affiliated with the transport sector.
• Experience managing multidisciplinary proposals and bid submissions.
• Previous experience leading, mentoring, and developing junior team members.
• Experience coordinating and managing sub‑consultants on complex projects.
