Role Context

Rail developments involve numerous contracts, technical disciplines, operational requirements, and physical interfaces. Constructability reviews help ensure that designs can be built safely, efficiently, and in a practical sequence, but their value depends on timely participation, clear decisions, and disciplined follow-up. The Senior Constructability Manager will create the governance connecting expert review with design progression and construction planning. A consistent process will reduce late design changes, improve package coordination, identify delivery constraints early, and limit avoidable rework.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain the rail-program constructability management plan.
  • Define workflows, review gates, approval stages, responsibilities, and closure requirements.
  • Establish constructability committees, review panels, and escalation routes.
  • Align constructability governance with wider project-management and assurance arrangements.
  • Embed formal checkpoints within design and construction programs.
  • Coordinate review milestones with design managers, planners, and package teams.
  • Define required inputs, participants, records, and acceptance criteria for each review.
  • Plan constructability activities according to design maturity and delivery priorities.
  • Sequence reviews for stations, viaducts, tunnels, trackwork, depots and railway systems.
  • Engage technical specialists, designers, construction managers, safety teams, operations personnel, maintenance representatives, and client stakeholders.
  • Organize workshop schedules, agendas, supporting information, and review logistics.
  • Facilitate efficient discussion and clear decision-making during review sessions.
  • Coordinate constructability matters spanning multiple packages, contracts, and delivery partners.
  • Establish systems for recording comments, actions, issues, and decisions.
  • Assign action owners and monitor agreed completion dates.
  • Follow design and construction actions through to documented closure.
  • Maintain a program-level constructability issues register.
  • Escalate high-risk, recurring, or cross-cutting concerns through approved governance channels.
  • Record technical trade-offs and confirm they receive the necessary approvals.
  • Communicate approved decisions to relevant disciplines and delivery teams.
  • Integrate constructability milestones into the master schedule.
  • Monitor performance against review dates, resolution targets, and design deadlines.
  • Identify process slippage and coordinate recovery plans or resequencing.
  • Maintain a risk register covering late reviews, incomplete participation, poor inputs, and unresolved actions.
  • Develop mitigation measures and track their effectiveness.
  • Measure review completion, action closeout, design impact, and reduction in rework.
  • Prepare dashboards, status reports, and recommendations for leadership.
  • Serve as the senior contact for the client on constructability-process matters.
  • Lead governance meetings and present risks, decisions, and performance trends.
  • Align constructability reviews with design assurance, safety-in-design, value engineering, and change control.
  • Coordinate external interfaces involving utilities, authorities, and adjacent projects.
  • Oversee common data environments, issue-tracking platforms, and collaboration tools.
  • Work with BIM and digital teams to incorporate models into structured reviews.
  • Support appropriate use of 4D and 5D methods for sequence and cost evaluation.
  • Capture lessons learned and improve workflows, templates, checklists, and governance controls.
  • Develop organizational playbooks, guidance, and training material for constructability management.
Ideal Profile
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Project Management, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 15 years of experience on major infrastructure or construction projects.

  • Experience supporting large multidisciplinary and multicontract mega projects.
  • Proven ability to develop and enforce structured workflows.
  • Strong project-management knowledge covering scheduling, risks, stakeholders, and reporting.
  • Ability to lead senior-level meetings and present confidently to client leadership.
  • Strong organizational capability across several concurrent constructability streams.
  • Detailed approach to documentation, traceability, approvals, and procedural compliance.
  • Ability to secure cooperation from design, construction, operations, and client teams.
