Job summary

Saipem seeks a Radio Operator Purser for its Offshore Drilling Jack-Up Vessel. You will operate and maintain all radio/communication equipment, ensure SOLAS/ITU/GMDSS compliance, and coordinate personnel tracking and essential admin on board.

You will report to the Master/OIM and keep meticulous radio logs and correspondence records. Minimum 3 years’ experience as Radio Operator, STCW security duties, and mandatory safety trainings are required.

Qualifications

  • Valid National Certificate of Competence and Endorsement per STCW IV/2 and GMDSS General Operator’s Certificate from an IMO whitelist country.
  • Valid STCW Basic Safety Training Certificate (PTA components).
  • Valid Seafarers with Designated Security Duties (STCW A-VI/6-2) endorsed by National Maritime Authority.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain radio and communications equipment on board.
  • Coordinate personnel tracking and boarding administration as required.
  • Report to Master/OIM and ensure compliance with SOLAS, ITU and GMDSS regulations.
  • Maintain radio logbook and manage outgoing/incoming correspondence per shipboard procedures.
  • Organize radio communications and vessel personnel administration.

Purpose of the position: As Radio Operator Purser you will be part of the Offshore Drilling Business Line with our Jack-Up Drilling Vessel.

How can you support us?

  • Operate and maintain all radio and communication equipment onboard and ensure mandatory provisions relating to its operation (as laid down in the radio regulations), are adhered.
  • Assure efficient co-ordination of personnel tracking system and administration of personnel matters on board, if required
  • Report to Master/OIM, ensure compliance with the radio watchkeeping requirements of SOLAS, International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and Global Maritime Distress Satellite System (GMDSS) regulations
  • Maintain a continuous watch on the dedicated distress, urgency and safety communications, receive weather forecast bulletins and meteorological warnings and other Maritime Safety Information, inform the Master/OIM as soon as a distress, urgency or safety communication is received, communicate with helicopter services and maintain radio contact with all helicopters intending to land or depart from the vessel, as required
  • Maintain the radio logbook, ensure all outgoing correspondence is approved by Master (General and Marine), Chief Engineer (Technical) and Superintendent (Projects), log incoming and outing correspondence and arrange distribution accordingly, log/arrange/distribute incoming and outgoing mail as per standing instructions issued by Master
  • Organize Radio communications and, where required, vessel personnel administration system Qualifications

What are we looking for?

Qualification:

  • ValidNational Certificate of Competence and Endorsement as per STCW IV/2 and Global Maritime Distress and Safety System General Operator’s Certificate issued from an IMO whitelist country and endorsement thereof.
  • Valid STCW Basic Safety Training Certificate issued/ endorsed by National Maritime Authority (comprised of Personal Survival Technique (A-VI/1-1), Basic Fire Prevention and Firefighting (A-VI/1-2), Elementary First Aid (A-VI/1-3), Personal Safety & Social Responsibilities (A-VI/1-4)).
  • Valid Seafarers with Designated Security Duties (STCW A-VI/6-2) issued / endorsed by National Maritime Authority

Background: Minimum 3 years as Radio Operator / Radio Operator Purser.
