Job description

  • Review hydrological and hydraulic studies for dams and related infrastructure projects.
  • Analyze rainfall, runoff, flood, catchment, topographical and geological data.
  • Undertake hydrological assessments to establish design floods and inflow hydrographs.
  • Assess flood severity, frequency and long-term probability, including 100-year events and other required design scenarios.
  • Develop, calibrate and validate rainfall-runoff and hydraulic models.
  • Model catchment flows, reservoir routing, spillway discharge, downstream flooding and channel capacity.
  • Assess the hydraulic performance and adequacy of spillways, outlets, gates, culverts, channels and energy-dissipation structures.
  • Review reservoir levels, operating rules, storage capacity and flood-routing performance.
  • Conduct flood-hazard, inundation and dam-break modelling where required.
  • Prepare and review flood-inundation maps and identify areas, communities and infrastructure exposed to risk.
  • Evaluate the potential effects of sedimentation on reservoir storage and hydraulic performance.
  • Review survey data, digital elevation models, catchment boundaries and model inputs.
  • Verify hydrological and hydraulic assumptions, calculations, boundary conditions and modelling results.
  • Perform sensitivity, uncertainty and scenario analyses to validate study conclusions.
  • Recommend optimum flood-control, water-management and risk-reduction solutions.
  • Identify hydraulic deficiencies and propose rehabilitation, capacity-improvement or operational measures.
  • Provide technical input to dam operating rules, reservoir-management plans and emergency action plans.
  • Review consultants’ and contractors’ technical submissions, calculations, designs, drawings and reports.

  • Support field investigations, inspections, data collection, instrumentation review and model verification.
  • Maintain organized hydrological and hydraulic datasets, models, assumptions and technical records.
  • Prepare clear daily, weekly, monthly, annual and technical reports as required by the assignment.
  • Present modelling results, flood risks, technical conclusions and recommended actions to senior stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with government stakeholders, consultants, contractors and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Attend meetings, inspections and site visits anywhere in Saudi Arabia as required.
  • Comply with Saudi laws, applicable codes, Client procedures, quality requirements and occupational health and safety obligations.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, Hydraulic Engineering, Environmental Engineering or another relevant discipline from a recognized university.
  • Minimum 16 years of professional experience preparing hydrological and hydraulic studies and analyzing rainfall, runoff and flood data.
  • Substantial experience working on dams, reservoirs, water resources or major flood-management projects.
  • Demonstrated experience in catchment modelling, flood-frequency analysis, reservoir routing and hydraulic assessment.
  • Advanced practical experience using HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS and SWMM, or equivalent hydrological and hydraulic modelling software.
  • Experience assessing flood events, spillway capacity, downstream impacts and flood-risk-reduction alternatives.
  • Ability to interpret topographical, geological, meteorological, hydrological and hydraulic information.
  • Experience reviewing technical studies, calculations, model files, engineering drawings and consultant submissions.
