Job summary

DHL Express in Jeddah is seeking a Gateway Operations Supervisor to oversee a rostered shift. You will ensure shipments enter and exit in line with procedures and transit standards, organize shifts, and manage outbound/inbound logistics to meet deadlines.

The role requires strong customs knowledge, regulatory awareness, stakeholder management, and leadership with an emphasis on process improvement and service excellence. English fluency is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in logistics, supply chain, business, or related field.
• Knowledge of customs operations, trade compliance and regulatory requirements.
• Experience liaising with internal teams and external authorities.
• Strong written and verbal communication is essential.
• Fluency in English; Arabic is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Organize shifts and staffing to meet business requirements.
• Ensure incoming shipments are recovered, inspected and cleared efficiently.
• Manage receipt and lodgment of outbound shipments to ensure timely departure.
• Ensure accurate sorting and loading of inbound and outbound shipments.
• Monitor performance of ground handlers and warehouses and complete reports.
• Maintain safe working practices and environment during shifts.
• Contribute to gateway quality policy and ISO initiatives.
• Develop a high-performance service culture within the department.
• Set IKOs/KPIs and monitor individual performance.
• Participate in performance appraisals and training planning.
• Allocate resources to achieve Global/Regional/Country targets.

Overall Role Purpose

Supervise a gateway operations team on a rostered shift basis ensuring that shipments enter and exit the country in accordance with network procedures and transit time standards.

Your Tasks:

• Organize appropriate shifts and manning levels to meet business requirements.
• Ensure incoming shipments are recovered, “break bulked”, inspected and cleared in the quickest, most efficient manner possible.
• Manage receipt and lodgment of outbound shipments from country operations to ensure timely departure and uplift.
• Ensure accurate sorting and optimum loading of all inbound & outbound shipments.
• Monitor ground handler and warehouse provider performance and complete all necessary reports.
• Ensure safe working practices and environment within the shift.
• Participate in gateway quality policy and initiatives e.g. ISO.
• Develop a high-performance service culture within the functional department. Plan, organize and direct and efficient and effective functional department.
• Develop IKOs/KPIs with team members and monitor individual performance.
• Consult performance appraisal.
• Manage the allocation of appropriate resources and commitment of staff to the achievement of Global, Regional and Country objectives and targets.
• Identify training needs and opportunities to develop a highly skilled functional department.

Your Profile:

• Business Acumen: Deep understanding of customs operations, trade compliance, and financial impact.
• Regulatory Insight: Keeps current with customs laws, GCC regulations, and international trade agreements.
• Stakeholder Management: Builds strong relationships with customs teams and internal teams.
• Leadership & Influence: Leads without direct authority and drives change across functions.
• Strategic Thinking: Aligns customs programmes with business objectives and regional strategy
• Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Business, or related field Customs broker certification or equivalent preferred
• Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential
• Strong Analytical skills
• Fluent in English, Arabic language is an added advantage.
