Job summary

KAUST Safety Specialist role supporting the Safety Lead in implementing and maintaining occupational health and safety programs across KAUST facilities, operations and projects. Focus on field inspections, audits, risk assessments and incident investigations, with contractor engagement and training.

Role requires strong field-oriented HSE experience, knowledge of ISO 45001 and related standards, and ability to work with facility owners, project teams and service providers to ensure safety

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety or related safety discipline.
• ISO 45001 Lead Auditor certification is required.
• Incident Root Cause Analysis certification or formal training is required.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in occupational safety, facilities or construction safety, auditing or compliance.
• Strong experience in hazard identification, risk assessment, and risk control.
• Knowledge of high-risk activities and permit-to-work systems.
• Working knowledge of ISO 45001, ISO 19011 and ISO 31000; CSP/CHST/NEBOSH preferred.
• Excellent English communication skills and ability to prepare safety reports.

Responsibilities

• Support the Safety Lead in implementing risk-based safety programs across facilities, operations, maintenance, construction and projects.
• Conduct risk-based site inspections, safety audits, compliance evaluations and field verifications.
• Perform hazard identification and risk assessments and verify controls are in place.
• Review HSE documents including risk assessments, method statements, safety plans and permits-to-work.
• Investigate accidents, injuries, incidents and near misses; identify root causes and corrective actions.
• Monitor corrective and preventive actions and ensure timely closure.
• Develop and deliver safety training, toolbox talks and awareness programs.
• Provide practical HSE guidance to project teams, contractors and stakeholders.
• Collect and analyze HSE data, KPIs, inspection findings and incident trends.
• Promote safety culture and support ISO 45001 compliance and regulatory requirements.
