Job description
  • To safely and efficiently operate light trucks, vans, or other light vehicles to transport goods, packages, or materials within local areas or short distances, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to all traffic laws and safety regulations.
Key Accountabilities
  • Vehicle Operation (Light Vehicle): Operate light trucks, vans, or other light vehicles in a safe and professional manner, adhering to all traffic laws, regulations, and company policies.
  • Cargo Loading & Unloading (Light Vehicle): Load and unload cargo or packages into the vehicle, ensuring proper handling and secure placement to prevent damage during transport. This may involve using hand trucks, dollies, or manual lifting.
  • Delivery & Pickup (Local/Short Distance): Deliver and pick up goods, packages, or materials at designated locations within local areas or short distances, following assigned routes or schedules.
  • Route Planning & Navigation (Local): Plan efficient routes and navigate to delivery/pickup destinations using maps, GPS devices, or other navigation tools, considering traffic and local road conditions.
  • Delivery Confirmation & Documentation: Obtain necessary signatures, delivery confirmations (PODs), or other required documentation upon delivery or pickup.
  • Customer Interaction (If Applicable): Interact with customers in a professional and courteous manner during deliveries or pickups, providing excellent customer service.
  • Pre-Trip & Post-Trip Inspections (Light Vehicle): Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle to ensure roadworthiness and identify any potential problems. Report any maintenance needs promptly.
  • Vehicle Maintenance (Basic Light Vehicle): Perform basic vehicle maintenance tasks, such as checking fluid levels, tire pressure, lights, and ensuring the vehicle is clean.
  • Record Keeping (Driving Related): Maintain accurate records of deliveries, mileage, fuel consumption, and other relevant information.
  • Communication with Dispatch/Supervisor: Communicate regularly with dispatchers or supervisors to provide updates on delivery status, report any delays or issues, and receive instructions.
  • Safety Compliance (Driving & Loading/Unloading): Adhere to all safety regulations related to driving, loading, unloading, and cargo handling.
Knowledge, Skills and Aptitude
  • Educational Qualifications and Certifications: A valid driver's license appropriate for the vehicle being driven is essential. A clean driving record is required.
  • Knowledge: Knowledge of traffic laws, regulations, and safe driving practices. Basic knowledge of local roads and navigation. Basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance.
  • Technical Skills: Good driving skills and the ability to operate a light truck or van safely and efficiently. Good navigation and communication skills. Ability to use GPS devices or other navigation tools.
  • Language Skills: Basic Arabic and English communication skills are preferred.
  • Experience: 0-2 years of driving experience is generally acceptable for entry-level positions. Previous delivery or courier experience is a plus.
