Job summary

Tabby is seeking a DBA Intern to join the Infrastructure team in the KSA. You will work on real production tasks within the Database Engineers group, focusing on PostgreSQL and related data stores.

This internship is embedded in the core data operations, with senior review and established engineering standards from day one. You will collaborate with product, risk, and data engineering teams, gaining hands-on experience in performance tuning, replication, backups, and high availability while

Qualifications

• Strong programming or scripting skills in Python, Go, or Bash.
• Solid SQL knowledge: joins, aggregations, window functions.
• Strong understanding of relational databases including ACID.
• Ability to read execution plans (EXPLAIN).
• Familiarity with Linux and networking basics.
• English documentation and team communication.
• Experience with PostgreSQL is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Investigate slow queries on PostgreSQL by reading execution plans and proposing improvements.
• Review DDL/DML changes for lock implications and backfill safety.
• Help maintain backup and point-in-time recovery procedures; participate in restore drills.
• Contribute to replication operations — streaming replicas and lag investigations.
• Support live database migrations and cross-cluster cutovers; pre-cutover validation and checks.
• Assist in data-migration tooling and monitoring metrics.
• Triage capacity and resource issues like autovacuum tuning and partition maintenance.
• Build and refine observability dashboards and query stats.
• Maintain runbooks, SOPs, and post-incident write-ups.
• Support secure data handling with security and risk teams.
