Role Context

The CAD Operator will provide essential drafting support to power utility engineering teams by converting technical calculations, sketches, field information, redlines, and engineering instructions into clear and buildable drawings. The role will support both electrical and civil interfaces across substations, transmission and distribution corridors, cable routes, underground utilities, and associated site works while maintaining accurate document revisions and consistent drafting standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed CAD drawings for overhead transmission and distribution infrastructure.
• Develop drawings for underground electrical distribution and transmission systems.
• Produce substation layouts showing equipment arrangements, grounding systems, conduits, cable routes, and supporting infrastructure.
• Prepare drawings for underground duct banks, manholes, vaults, chambers, and associated civil works.
• Develop plan and profile drawings from engineering information and approved design data.
• Prepare sections, details, layouts, and schematic drawings based on engineer and designer instructions.
• Convert engineering sketches, markups, and redlines into accurate CAD documentation.
• Translate field notes and verified site information into coordinated construction drawings.
• Prepare single-line diagrams and supporting electrical schematics where required.
• Maintain accurate dimensions, elevations, references, and technical annotations.
• Develop standard drawing templates aligned with company and client requirements.
• Maintain title blocks, standard details, blocks, symbols, and drafting libraries.
• Apply approved layer structures, line types, text styles, dimensions, and plotting requirements.
• Ensure drawings follow project naming conventions and document numbering requirements.
• Verify drawings against applicable utility and project CAD standards.
• Conduct self-checks before submitting drawings for engineering review.
• Review drawings for completeness, consistency, legibility, and dimensional accuracy.
• Incorporate engineering comments and quality review markups accurately.
• Update drawings following design changes and approved revisions.
• Maintain clear revision histories for all controlled drawing files.
• Assist with quality reviews by preparing corrected drawing packages within required deadlines.
• Support development and maintenance of standard utility drawing sets.
• Maintain typical details and best-practice drawing libraries for recurring power utility applications.
• Organize CAD files in accordance with project document control requirements.
• Apply correct version control to active and superseded drawing files.
• Maintain disciplined file naming and folder structures.
• Coordinate CAD records within approved document management platforms.
• Prepare drawing lists, indexes, and registers for design submission packages.
• Assemble drawing packages for client and utility review.
• Support preparation of drawings for permit and authority submissions.
• Produce construction issue drawing sets in accordance with approved release procedures.
• Develop and update as-built drawings using contractor redlines, field records, and survey information.
• Verify as-built revisions against available field documentation.
• Coordinate with engineers and designers to obtain missing technical information.
• Raise drafting queries where source information is incomplete or inconsistent.
• Participate in design coordination discussions where drawing interfaces require clarification.
• Coordinate drawing information across civil, structural, and electrical disciplines.
• Check for conflicts between power infrastructure and surrounding civil works.
• Coordinate cable routes and underground infrastructure with road, drainage, structural, and utility layouts.
• Support engineers in identifying drawing discrepancies that could affect construction.
• Work with field personnel to clarify actual installation conditions where required.
• Support drawing updates resulting from site changes or approved technical modifications.
• Assist in preparation of technical sketches for meetings, field instructions, and engineering reviews.
• Produce clear PDF drawing sets for technical review and project distribution.
• Maintain editable source files in accordance with project requirements.
• Support contractors and project teams with current approved drawing information where authorized.
• Coordinate with Document Control teams to ensure drawings are properly registered and issued.
• Maintain confidentiality and integrity of controlled design information.
• Follow applicable drafting procedures, project specifications, and engineering requirements.
• Support continuous improvement of drafting standards and CAD workflows.

Ideal Profile

• High school diploma or equivalent qualification.
• Certificate or diploma in Drafting, CAD Technology, Engineering Technology, or a related discipline is preferred.
• Saudi National eligible for the position.
• Minimum 6 years of CAD drafting experience.
• Experience supporting power utility, electrical infrastructure, transmission, distribution, or related projects.
• Strong proficiency with AutoCAD or equivalent organizational CAD software.
• Practical experience producing construction-ready technical drawings.
• Ability to interpret engineering sketches, redlines, specifications, and design instructions.
• Experience preparing transmission or distribution drawings is highly advantageous.
• Familiarity with substation layouts and electrical utility infrastructure is preferred.
• Understanding of underground duct banks, cable routes, manholes, and utility civil works.
• Good knowledge of plan, profile, section, and detail drawing preparation.
• Experience maintaining drawing templates, blocks, symbols, and standard details.
• Strong understanding of CAD layers, annotation, dimensions, references, and plotting.
• Good knowledge of drawing revision and version control.
• Ability to maintain organized CAD files and drawing registers.
• Familiarity with document management systems is beneficial.
• Experience developing as-built drawings from field information and contractor redlines.
