Role Context
The CADD Designer will provide the controlled drawing information required to support traffic signal operations, engineering analysis, troubleshooting, modifications, and long-term asset records across Riyadh. The role will translate field surveys, redlines, construction documents, controller information, photographs, and verified as-built data into accurate traffic signal plans. Maintaining consistency between field conditions, operational models, and approved drawing sets will help engineers make reliable traffic management decisions and reduce discrepancies during future modifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain CADD traffic signal layout drawings for signalized intersections and coordinated arterial corridors.
- Develop detailed intersection base plans showing roadway geometry, traffic lanes, stop bars, pedestrian crossings, signal poles, signal heads, cabinets, signs, and pavement markings.
- Include pedestrian equipment, detection zones, communications infrastructure, and other relevant traffic signal components in drawing sets.
- Update existing signal drawings using verified field survey data, redlines, photographs, controller information, and construction documentation.
- Prepare accurate as-built traffic signal plans for engineering, Traffic Control Center operations, maintenance, troubleshooting, and future modifications.
- Coordinate drawing information with Synchro models to maintain consistency in lane geometry, approach configurations, signal phasing references, and intersection identification.
- Prepare signal phasing diagrams under engineering direction.
- Develop detector layouts showing detection zones, equipment references, and associated signal infrastructure.
- Prepare cabinet schedules, pole identification, signal head references, and other supporting traffic signal documentation.
- Incorporate approved signal timing, phasing, detector, geometric, and equipment modifications into controlled drawing sets.
- Support preparation of corridor plans and location maps covering groups of signalized intersections.
- Maintain drawing information required for signal coordination, progression analysis, and corridor operations.
- Conduct or support field verification when existing drawings conflict with system records or observed site conditions.
- Identify drawing discrepancies and coordinate clarification with traffic engineers, field inspectors, and ITS personnel.
- Maintain drawing revision history, file naming conventions, document numbers, issue status, and title block information.
- Apply approved CADD layer conventions, references, blocks, cells, symbols, annotation, and plotting requirements.
- Perform drawing quality checks covering completeness, legibility, dimensional consistency, references, symbols, and layer usage.
- Verify that drawing revisions accurately incorporate engineering comments and approved technical changes.
- Coordinate with roadway designers where signal changes interact with lane configurations, medians, junction geometry, or pavement works.
- Work with ITS designers when signal modifications affect communications systems, detection equipment, roadside devices, or network infrastructure.
- Coordinate with electrical or utility teams where traffic signal systems interface with power supplies or underground services.
- Produce clear PDF drawing packages suitable for engineering review, project submission, field implementation, and final handover.
- Maintain editable CADD files in accordance with project design and document management requirements.
- Prepare sketches and technical exhibits supporting traffic improvement concepts and engineering recommendations.
- Assist with graphics and drawings for technical reports, presentations, workshops, and implementation packages.
- Maintain an organized traffic signal drawing library covering individual intersections and coordinated corridors.
- Ensure engineers and TCC staff can reliably retrieve the latest approved or verified as-built plan.
- Support migration or organization of drawing files within approved electronic document and engineering management platforms.
- Maintain clear records linking field changes, engineering approvals, and drawing revisions.
- Support project closeout by verifying that final traffic signal plans accurately reflect installed conditions.
- Coordinate with Document Control teams to ensure approved drawing packages are properly issued and archived.
- Apply consistent drafting standards across large numbers of intersection drawings.
- Support technical teams with drawing retrieval, plan interpretation, and clarification of traffic signal layout information.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of CADD templates, drawing standards, and traffic signal documentation practices.
Ideal Profile

- Minimum 5 years of relevant CADD design or drafting experience within transportation, roadway, traffic signal, ITS, or civil infrastructure projects.
- Strong practical proficiency in AutoCAD or MicroStation.
- Demonstrated ability to produce accurate engineering plans from technical instructions, field information, redlines, and existing records.
- Direct experience preparing traffic signal layouts or as-built signal plans is strongly preferred.
- Experience with roadway, utility, electrical, ITS, or comparable infrastructure drawings is also valuable.
- Ability to interpret roadway geometry, signal phasing, field redlines, equipment layouts, and engineering plan information.
- Strong understanding of CADD layers, references, blocks, cells, annotation, title blocks, plotting, and revision control.
- Ability to identify discrepancies between drawings, models, system records, and site conditions.
