Job summary

ABB is seeking an experienced Field Service Engineer to perform complex on-site and remote service tasks for System 800xA based safety systems. You will plan site activities, manage subcontractors, and drive customer satisfaction while identifying new service opportunities.

Ideal candidates hold a Graduate Engineer degree and have 8+ years in customer support or project roles within Oil & Gas, Power, or Water sectors, with strong knowledge of safety standards and cybersecurity.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience as customer support / project / service engineer of System 800xA based safety systems, preferably in Oil & Gas / Power & Water.
• Hands-on experience in 800xA based integrated control and safety system hardware and software.
• Knowledge of FSMS and functional safety certifications preferred (e.g., TÜV FS).
• Knowledge of IEC61511, IEC61508 and corresponding system engineering practice.
• Industrial networking and network switch configuration.
• Cyber security for 800xA based systems.
• Analytical thinker, self-starter, resilient and adaptable.
• Experience with Modbus-RTU & TCP, OPC and related protocols.

Responsibilities

• Perform complex field service tasks, identify problems, and analyze via remote or on-site activity for certified systems.
• Plan and prepare site work for large projects and manage subcontractors onsite.
• Contribute to customer satisfaction by executing service work per order and expectations.
• Ensure customer retention by delivering superior service and communicating timelines clearly.
• Identify new service business opportunities in collaboration with customers and other ABB teams.
• Coach technicians and engineers and supervise complex site activities.

Your role and responsibilities

In this role, you will have the opportunity to execute service work of medium to high complexity as per work instructions and ABB guidelines. Each day, you will deliver excellent customer service to satisfy customers. You will also showcase your expertise by working with customer to identify opportunities in the installed base, to improve system performance and operational performance.

The work model for the role is: Onsite

This role is contributing to the PAEN-Qatar . Main stakeholders are PAEN.

You will be mainly accountable for:

• Performing complex field service tasks, identifies technical problems, and makes analysis through remote or on-site activity in service categories and products for which they are certified to perform.
• Planing and preparing site work for larger project team and manages related subcontractors at site.
• Contributing to customer satisfaction by planning and executing service work as per customer order and expectations.
• Ensuring customer retention by delivering superior customer experience and effectively communicating service work timeline and expectations.
• Taking actions to identify new service business opportunities for ABB, in close cooperation with customer and other ABB teams.
• Coaching technicians and engineers and supervising complex site activities.

Qualifications

• Graduate Engineer in instrumentation, Electrical or Equivalent Engineering degree.
• Must have minimum 8 years of experience of at least 5 years as customer support / project / service engineer of System 800xA based safety systems preferably in Oil & Gas / Power & Water industry.
• Good hands-on experience in system 800xA based integrated control and safety system (both hardware and software) is a Must-have with AC800MHI library-based application development - project & commissioning
• Knowledge of FSMS (functional safety management system) is a Must-have for this role and valid Functional Safety certifications preferred such as TUV FS engineer, ABB certifications etc.
• Knowledge of Functional safety technical standards IEC61511, IEC61508 and corresponding system engineering practice experience.
• Hands on Experience in Industrial networking, network switch configuration
• Hands on experience in Cyber security for 800xA based systems
• Be an analytical thinker, self-starter, resilient and highly adaptable- in line with ABB's latest advance service & digital portfolio
• Hands on Experience in industrial communication protocols like Modbus- RTU & TCP, OPC, etc.
