Job summary

ABB in Qatar is seeking a highly experienced Field Service Engineer to execute complex service tasks on 800xA safety systems, lead site planning, and ensure customer satisfaction with onsite delivery. You will identify opportunities in the installed base to improve system performance and collaborate with ABB teams.

The role requires 8+ years in related roles, with strong technical knowledge of modular safety systems and cybersecurity practices, and offers growth within ABB's automation portfolio

Qualifications

• Graduate engineer with instrumentation or electrical engineering background.
• Minimum 8 years of experience, including at least 5 years in customer support / project / service engineering of 800xA based safety systems.
• Experience in Oil & Gas or Power & Water industries is preferred.
• Knowledge of 800xA based integrated control and safety systems (hardware and software) and AC800MHI library-based development.

Responsibilities

• Perform complex field service tasks and diagnose technical problems on site or remotely.
• Plan and prepare site work for large projects and manage subcontractors at site.
• Deliver superior customer experience and communicate service timelines and expectations.
• Identify new service business opportunities in collaboration with customers and ABB teams.
• Coach technicians and engineers and supervise complex site activities.

Your role and responsibilities

In this role, you will have the opportunity to execute service work of medium to high complexity as per work instructions and ABB guidelines. Each day, you will deliver excellent customer service to satisfy customers. You will also showcase your expertise by working with customer to identify opportunities in the installed base, to improve system performance and operational performance.

The work model for the role is: Onsite

This role is contributing to the PAEN-Qatar. Main stakeholders are PAEN.

You will be mainly accountable for:

• Performing complex field service tasks, identifies technical problems, and makes analysis through remote or on-site activity in service categories and products for which they are certified to perform.
• Planing and preparing site work for larger project team and manages related subcontractors at site.
• Contributing to customer satisfaction by planning and executing service work as per customer order and expectations.
• Ensuring customer retention by delivering superior customer experience and effectively communicating service work timeline and expectations.
• Taking actions to identify new service business opportunities for ABB, in close cooperation with customer and other ABB teams.
• Coaching technicians and engineers and supervising complex site activities.

Qualifications

• Graduate Engineer in instrumentation, Electrical or Equivalent Engineering degree.
• Must have minimum 8 years of experience of at least 5 years as customer support / project / service engineer of System 800xA based safety systems preferably in Oil & Gas / Power & Water industry.
• Good hands-on experience in system 800xA based integrated control and safety system (both hardware and software) is a Must-have with AC800MHI library-based application development – project & commissioning
• Knowledge of FSMS (functional safety management system) is a Must-have for this role and valid Functional Safety certifications preferred such as TUV FS engineer, ABB certifications etc.
• Knowledge of Functional safety technical standards IEC61511, IEC61508 and corresponding system engineering practice experience.
• Hands on Experience in Industrial networking, network switch configuration
• Hands on experience in Cyber security for 800xA based systems
• Be an analytical thinker, self-starter, resilient and highly adaptable- in line with ABB’s latest advance service & digital portfolio
• Hands on Experience in industrial communication protocols like Modbus- RTU & TCP, OPC, etc.
