Job summary

Shakers is partnering with a global technology consultancy on a new project for a major North American retailer. We seek a Senior AI Platform Engineer based in Portugal to join as a freelancer, full-time, hybrid with on-site days in Lisbon, Braga or Coimbra.

You'll design agentic development workflows, build AI agents, and implement evaluation frameworks to ensure reliable outputs. You will own CI/CD pipelines, cloud infrastructure, and developer tooling, collaborating with Jira and CI platforms.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in software engineering with senior or lead responsibilities.
• Proven experience building and deploying AI agents in production.
• Strong background in Platform Engineering, DevOps and CI/CD.
• Proficient in Python and TypeScript.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure (GCP or equivalent) and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform).
• Experience building internal developer platforms, CLIs or workflow engines.
• Daily hands-on use of agentic coding tools.
• English at C1 level, living in Portugal.

Responsibilities

• Design and build agentic development workflows, tools and automation across the SDLC
• Develop and integrate AI agents: orchestration, tool use, MCP servers and context engineering
• Implement evaluation frameworks, guardrails and quality checks for reliable agent outputs
• Build and optimize CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure automation and developer tooling
• Connect AI workflows with Jira, source control and CI platforms
• Improve engineering efficiency, reliability and developer experience
