Job summary

Alignerr is seeking Senior Software Engineers in Lisbon and across Portugal to design, build, and scale infrastructure powering AI products used by millions. This is a fully remote, hourly contract role with 20-40 hours/week, offering high autonomy and challenging architectural work.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong proficiency in at least one modern programming language (Python, TS/JS, Go, Java).
• Solid understanding of software architecture, design patterns, and system design principles.
• Experience building and deploying backend services, APIs, or data-intensive applications.
• Comfortable with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and containerized environments.
• Familiar with Git, CI/CD workflows, and modern development tooling.
• Excellent written communication in an async-first environment.
• Self-directed and reliable with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain production-grade software systems for AI training, evaluation, and deployment pipelines.
• Write clean, well-tested, performant code in Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, or other modern languages.
• Build and optimize APIs, data pipelines, and backend services that scale reliably.
• Architect solutions balancing delivery speed with long-term maintainability.
• Troubleshoot complex issues across distributed systems and cloud infrastructure.
• Collaborate asynchronously with ML engineers, researchers, and product managers.
• Participate in code reviews and promote engineering best practices.
• Work independently on well-scoped projects with autonomy.
