Job summary

Wire IT, based in Portugal, is seeking a Senior Data Engineer - Applied AI to join a remote team. The role emphasizes end-to-end data delivery, strong collaboration with leadership, and hands-on AI capabilities using modern data platforms.

You will work on production-quality data pipelines, apply AI techniques, and contribute to scalable architectures while operating in a distributed, international environment.

Qualifications

• 5+ years as a data engineer with end-to-end delivery experience.
• Fluent in English and strong collaboration with developers and leadership.
• Solid understanding of engineering and architectural principles and CI/CD workflows.
• Strong production software engineering with Python, testing, REST, Docker.
• Experience with Databricks/Spark, Snowflake, or BigQuery; strong SQL and data modelling.
• Experience with AI engineering including prompt design, function calling, and AI APIs.

Role: Senior Data Engineer - Applied AI

Location: Remote, Portugal

Requirements:

• Minimum of 5 years as a data engineer with a track record of end-to-end delivery in fast-paced environments.
• Professional fluency in English , are an excellent collaborator between developers and leadership, and have the ability to guide others.
• You have a solid understanding of engineering and architectural principles , and you are comfortable collaborating on CI/CD workflows and using version control (Git)
• Strong production software engineering: Python, testing, CI/CD, REST, Docker. You build reusable products, not one-off pipelines.
• Experience on atleast one,Databricks/Spark, Snowflake, or BigQuery, are strong in SQL and data modelling, and can reason confidently across the others and pick up a partner's stack fast.
• Enough AI engineering to be a full builder on an agentic system: prompt design, structured outputs, function calling, and evaluation, with the Anthropic and OpenAI APIs. You co-own the AI work, you do not just hand requirements to your AI-systems counterpart.
