Jobgether is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer for the Protection team, based in Portugal, with emphasis on payment dispute management, fraud prevention, and risk automation. You will own critical backend systems, from architecture to deployment, and collaborate with leadership to deliver reliable, automated solutions that reduce merchant risk and improve outcomes.

This fully remote role offers exposure to payments ecosystems, integrations with PSPs, and the opportunity to shape engineering

Qualifications

• Proven backend ownership from architecture to deployment and maintenance.
• Strong system design and scalable backend thinking.
• Experience building systems from scratch with ambiguity.
• High standards for code quality and operations, especially for financial workloads.
• Delivery-focused mindset with a track record of shipping improvements.
• Experience mentoring engineers and establishing engineering best practices.
• Strong problem-solving and communication in a distributed team.
• Willingness to contribute to frontend when required.
• Experience in payments, fraud prevention, or risk management is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Backend engineering and architecture across the full lifecycle.
• Payment dispute automation and workflows.
• Integrations with Payment Service Providers and fraud platforms.
• Design of rules engines and risk signals.
• Cross-functional collaboration with engineering and product teams.
• Contribute to product development and dashboards when needed.
• Ensure reliability, monitoring, and high engineering standards.
• Mentor and raise engineering standards within the team.
• Help establish team conventions and on-call processes.
