Job summary

Jobgether is seeking an AI/ML Engineer based in Portugal for a fully remote role on behalf of a partner company. You will design, build, and deploy AI-powered applications spanning healthcare, agriculture, and education, with a focus on practical impact and responsible AI practices.

You will collaborate with researchers and field teams to translate research into reliable, scalable products, mentor partner staff, and contribute to open-source tools and documentation.

Qualifications

• Strong foundations in mathematics, deep learning, LLMs, and modern AI systems.
• At least 4 years of hands-on ML engineering experience delivering end-user AI products.
• At least 1–2 years building LLM-powered applications, including production-grade agents.
• Proficiency in Python and willingness to be hands-on.
• Experience evaluating AI systems with proper datasets and metrics.
• Ability to read research papers and test ideas quickly.
• Experimental mindset with data-driven progress.
• Strong first-principles thinking and scalable solution design.
• User-focused approach and proactive ownership.
• Strong communication skills for nonengineering audiences.
• Commitment to responsible AI practices.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, evaluate, deploy, and improve ML systems and AI-powered applications for real-world use cases.
• Contribute to open-source AI evaluation infrastructure and tools for nonprofit partners.
• Collaborate with behavioral scientists, researchers, and field teams to translate findings into reusable tools and playbooks.
• Develop rigorous evaluation methods including datasets, evaluation criteria, and measurable improvements.
• Build production-grade LLM applications and agentic systems for end users.
• Release meaningful innovations from partner projects as open-source when appropriate.
• Deliver solutions through rapid development and feedback-driven cycles.
• Document technical decisions and maintain engineering standards for AI components.
• Monitor advances in applied AI research and test promising approaches.
• Advise partner organizations on responsible AI practices and internal capabilities.
