Job summary

Decskill is seeking a skilled COBOL Developer to translate business needs into robust technical solutions, maintain legacy COBOL code, and collaborate with analysts. You will use AI-assisted tools to refactor COBOL while preserving business logic and contribute to AI-driven data validation, CI/CD, and monitoring.

The role involves Agile ceremonies and long-term, international projects within the Astek Group.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of relevant professional experience.
• Strong expertise in Micro Focus COBOL.
• Familiarity with PowerHouse (4GL) and Eloquence (Marxmeier) is a plus.
• Hands-on experience with DevOps tools, such as Ansible and ToolChain, is a plus.
• Experience with Git and version control is a plus.
• Previous experience in the financial sector is a plus.
• Experience working in Agile environments.
• Good understanding of unit and integration testing.
• English – Expert, Portuguese – Expert.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with Business Analysts to transform functional requirements into robust technical solutions.
• Use AI-assisted tools to understand, analyze, refactor, and safely modify existing COBOL modules while preserving business logic.
• Map functional specifications to the existing codebase and identify all impacted components.
• Develop and maintain unit and integration test suites and support acceptance-test planning and execution.
• Support the adoption of modern technologies and tooling, including AI-driven data validation, CI/CD pipelines, and advanced monitoring.
• Document changes, manage version control, and ensure compliance with security and regulatory standards.
• Participate actively in Agile ceremonies and contribute to the successful delivery of releases.
