Job summary

LKQ Europe in Katowice seeks a Trade Compliance Expert to ensure customs compliance and smooth flow of goods. The role collaborates with internal teams and authorities on export licenses, licensing, screenings and reporting to maintain regulatory alignment.

The candidate will apply in-depth EU customs knowledge and cross-border compliance experience. The position requires five years in customs or international trade compliance, strong analytical skills, and fluent English.

Qualifications

  • Five+ years in customs or international trade compliance
  • Strong knowledge of EU customs legislation including UCC
  • Experience with export controls, sanctions and dual-use goods
  • Practical tariff classification using HS, CN and TARIC
  • Familiar with FTAs, origin rules and customs valuation
  • Experience in multinational cross-border compliance
  • Excellent analytical and stakeholder management skills
  • Fluency in English; additional European languages are a plus

Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate tariff classifications and ensure compliance with customs/export regulations
  • Coordinate with internal/external stakeholders on export licenses, embargo screenings and regulatory reporting
  • Screen partners against sanctioned-party lists
  • Manage export licenses, sanctions and exporter declarations
  • Provide operational guidance on customs/trade compliance across the business
  • Monitor regulatory updates and adjust procedures accordingly
  • Assist in audits and internal control development for classification/licensing procedures
  • Define export licensing requirements

Job description

The Trade Compliance Expert plays a critical role in ensuring compliance with customs regulations and facilitating the smooth flow of goods through customs.

Working closely with internal stakeholders and external authorities, the Trade Compliance Expert plays a key role in managing export licences, embargo screenings and regulatory reporting. This role requires a high motivated and detail-oriented individual with a passion for international trade and a commitment to excellence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintaining accurate tariff classifications for products and ensuring compliance with relevant customs and export control regulations (e.g., EU Dual-Use Regulation)
  • Liasing with internal stakeholders and external authorities to manage export licenses, embargo screenings and regulatory reporting
  • Screening business partners against sanctioned-party lists
  • Managing export licences, sanctions and exporter declarationsWorking closely with cross-functional teams and international stakeholders
  • Providing operational support and guidance on customs and trade compliance across the business
  • Monitoring updates in trade legislation and applying changes to internal procedures accordingly
  • Participating in audits and assessments relating to customs and export control compliance
  • Assisting in the development of internal control processes and documentation for classification and licensing procedures
  • Defining export licensing requirements.
Skills and Experience needed
  • Minimum five years’ experience in customs, international trade compliance, tariff classification or export control
  • Strong knowledge of EU Customs legislation, including the Union Customs Code (UCC) and wider international trade regulations
  • Understanding of export control regulations, sanctions, embargoes and dual-use goods
  • Practical experience in tariff classification using Harmonized System (HS), Combined Nomenclature (CN) and TARIC
  • Experience with Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), preferential origin and customs valuation
  • Familiarity with multinational operating environments and cross-border compliance requirements
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex legislation
  • Effective communication and stakeholder management across diverse internal and external audiences
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities with integrity and sound ethical judgment
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken), with additional European languages - particularly german - being an advantage.
Nice to have:
  • Familiarity with customs automation and digitalization projects
  • Exposure to global supply chain operations
  • Knowledge of Export Administration Regulations, International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and UK export controls
  • Experience managing customs brokers and external compliance providers.
