ROLE OVERVIEW
- Reporting to the Clinic Supervisor.
- The Senior Midwife is a senior clinical healthcare professional responsible for providing comprehensive, patient-centered maternal, reproductive, newborn, and family planning services across TeleCure's clinic and onsite operations.
- The role provides continuity of care throughout the maternal journey—from antenatal care and birth preparation through delivery, postpartum care, breastfeeding support, newborn care, and family planning—within the professional scope of midwifery and TeleCure's licensed service capabilities.
- In addition to direct clinical care, the Senior Midwife serves as a key maternal care coordinator, ensuring that pregnant patients complete the appropriate sequence of consultations, diagnostic examinations, referrals, and documentation required under applicable DOH and PhilHealth programs.
- The position may perform or assist with authorized procedures such as normal delivery, maternal and newborn care, antenatal and postpartum assessments, family planning services, lactation management, and appropriately authorized ultrasound services, subject to professional scope, competency, training, credentialing, and facility licensing requirements.
- As a senior practitioner, the Senior Midwife also provides clinical guidance and mentorship to midwives and other maternal‑care personnel, supports implementation of clinical protocols, and helps ensure that maternal and newborn services are safe, coordinated, properly documented, and compliant.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Antenatal & Maternal Care
- Conduct comprehensive antenatal assessments and monitor maternal and fetal well‑being throughout pregnancy.
- Coordinate and monitor the required sequence of antenatal visits and diagnostic examinations.
- Provide counseling on pregnancy, nutrition, warning signs, birth preparedness, breastfeeding, newborn care, and postpartum recovery.
- Identify high‑risk pregnancies and warning signs requiring physician assessment or referral to a higher‑level facility.
- Develop and facilitate individualized birth and referral plans with patients and their families.
2. Labor, Delivery & Immediate Postpartum Care
- Provide care to women during labor and perform or assist with normal spontaneous delivery within the authorized scope of practice and facility capabilities.
- Monitor maternal and fetal condition throughout labor and recognize complications requiring escalation or emergency referral.
- Provide immediate postpartum assessment and care, including monitoring for maternal complications.
- Coordinate appropriate referral and transfer when the patient requires services beyond TeleCure's capability.
3. Newborn & Postpartum Care
- Provide appropriate immediate and continuing newborn care within professional scope and applicable protocols.
- Conduct postpartum assessments and monitor maternal recovery.
- Educate parents regarding newborn care, feeding, hygiene, danger signs, and follow‑up requirements.
- Facilitate appropriate newborn registration, primary care enrollment, screening, immunization, and referral services as applicable.
4. Lactation & Breastfeeding Support
- Provide breastfeeding and lactation counseling, including assessment of positioning, attachment, milk transfer, and common breastfeeding difficulties.
- Support early initiation and continued breastfeeding consistent with applicable maternal and newborn care standards.
- Identify breastfeeding concerns requiring referral to physicians or other appropriately qualified professionals.
5. Family Planning & Reproductive Health
- Provide comprehensive family planning counseling and informed‑choice education.
- Assess eligibility for family planning methods within professional scope.
- Perform or assist with authorized family planning procedures for which the Senior Midwife has the required training, competency, and certification.
- Coordinate follow‑up, management of concerns, and referrals when necessary.
6. Maternal Diagnostic & Ultrasound Services
- Perform authorized maternal diagnostic procedures and assessments within professional scope.
- Where appropriately trained, credentialed, and legally authorized, perform designated ultrasound examinations or assist qualified providers in ultrasound services.
- Ensure findings requiring medical evaluation are promptly referred to the appropriate physician.
- Maintain appropriate documentation and quality standards for diagnostic procedures.
7. PhilHealth YAKAP & Maternity Care Coordination
- Facilitate registration and navigation of eligible pregnant patients through applicable PhilHealth maternity and primary care benefits.
- Verify that required antenatal, delivery, postpartum, diagnostic, and referral services are appropriately coordinated.
- Ensure completeness and accuracy of the ANCR, PPCR, EMR, referral documentation, and other required clinical and PhilHealth records.
- Coordinate with physicians, diagnostic facilities, birthing facilities, hospitals, and PhilHealth‑related personnel to support continuity of care.
8. Clinical Quality, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure maternal and newborn services comply with TeleCure SOPs, infection prevention and control standards, patient safety requirements, and applicable healthcare regulations.
- Maintain complete, accurate, and timely clinical documentation.
- Participate in quality assurance activities, case reviews, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensure that procedures are performed only within the individual's demonstrated competency, professional scope, and the facility's authorized capabilities.
9. Senior Clinical Support & Mentorship
- Serve as a clinical resource for midwives and other healthcare personnel involved in maternal and reproductive health services.
- Assist in orientation, coaching, and competency development of junior staff.
- Promote standardized implementation of maternal care, breastfeeding, family planning, and newborn‑care protocols.
- Coordinate closely with physicians and other healthcare professionals for complex or high‑risk cases.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
Education: Graduate of Diploma in Midwifery or Bachelor of Science in Midwifery.
Experience: Substantial clinical experience in antenatal, delivery, postpartum, and newborn care; senior‑level experience preferred.
Licenses & Certifications: Midwife with a valid PRC license.
Technical Skills: Strong ability to recognize maternal and newborn danger signs and referral indications. Familiarity with PhilHealth maternity/YAKAP workflows, ANCR, PPCR, EMR documentation, and care coordination is highly desirable. Strong patient education, counseling, clinical documentation, and interdisciplinary coordination skills.
Willingness to participate in both clinic‑based and onsite/community‑based healthcare services.
