ROLE OVERVIEW

Reporting to the Clinic Supervisor. The Ultrasound Technologist is responsible for performing high-quality diagnostic ultrasound examinations at TeleCure, including general ultrasound and/or OB‑GYN ultrasound examinations, according to the individual's training, demonstrated competency, assigned privileges, and TeleCure protocols.

The role encompasses the complete ultrasound workflow—from verification of physician requests and patient preparation to proper image acquisition, documentation, image submission for interpretation, and coordination of results. The Ultrasound Technologist shall ensure that examinations produce complete and technically adequate images that enable the interpreting physician to provide accurate and timely diagnostic reports.

The Ultrasound Technologist is also responsible for the proper operation, handling, cleaning, maintenance, transportation, and storage of ultrasound machines, probes, and related equipment entrusted to the position.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Patient Preparation & Pre-Procedure Verification
  • Verify patient identity, physician request, requested examination, clinical indication, and relevant patient information before performing the procedure.
  • Review available clinical information necessary to appropriately conduct the requested examination.
  • Confirm that the patient has complied with required examination preparations, such as fasting or bladder preparation, when applicable.
  • Explain the procedure to the patient and provide appropriate instructions before and during the examination.
  • Ensure patient privacy, dignity, comfort, and safety throughout the procedure.
  • Identify situations requiring clarification or physician consultation before proceeding with the examination.
2. General Ultrasound Procedures
  • Perform assigned general diagnostic ultrasound examinations according to established protocols and demonstrated competency.
  • Obtain appropriate anatomical views, measurements, images, and other required technical documentation.
  • Adjust ultrasound settings and scanning techniques to optimize image quality based on the examination and patient characteristics.
  • Recognize technically inadequate studies and obtain additional views when necessary.
  • Identify findings or circumstances requiring prompt escalation to the interpreting physician without independently exceeding the professional scope of the position.
3. OB‑GYN Ultrasound Procedures
  • When appropriately trained, competent, and authorized:
  • Perform assigned obstetric and gynecologic ultrasound examinations according to established protocols.
  • Obtain required images and measurements appropriate to the requested examination.
  • Document relevant sonographic observations and technical information for physician interpretation.
  • Recognize potentially urgent or concerning findings requiring prompt referral to the interpreting physician or attending healthcare professional.
  • Maintain appropriate sensitivity, privacy, and communication when performing obstetric and gynecologic examinations.
4. Image Quality & Diagnostic Documentation
  • Ensure ultrasound images are properly labeled, complete, technically adequate, and correctly associated with the appropriate patient.
  • Review acquired images before concluding the examination to determine whether required views and measurements have been obtained.
  • Minimize repeat examinations caused by preventable technical or documentation deficiencies.
  • Maintain accurate records of examinations performed and relevant procedural information.
5. Submission for Physician Interpretation
  • Properly organize, upload, and transmit ultrasound images and examination information to the designated radiologist or other appropriately credentialed interpreting physician.
  • Ensure that images are successfully transmitted and accessible for interpretation.
  • Coordinate with the interpreting physician when additional images, measurements, or clinical information are requested.
  • Facilitate timely completion and proper routing of ultrasound reports to the appropriate TeleCure system or department.
  • Immediately elevate potentially urgent findings in accordance with TeleCure protocols.
6. Equipment Operation, Care & Custodianship
  • Properly operate ultrasound machines, transducers, workstations, printers, and related accessories.
  • Perform routine pre-use and post-use equipment checks.
  • Ensure proper cleaning and disinfection of ultrasound probes and equipment according to applicable infection prevention requirements and manufacturer instructions.
  • Safeguard ultrasound machines and probes from improper handling, impact, moisture, excessive heat, electrical hazards, and other preventable damage.
  • Immediately report equipment malfunction, deterioration, damage, or irregular performance.
  • Coordinate preventive maintenance, calibration, servicing, and repair requirements with the appropriate department.
  • Ensure equipment is properly secured and stored after use.
7. Onsite & Mobile Ultrasound Services
  • When assigned to health caravans or other onsite activities:
  • Assist in determining the appropriate setup and operational requirements for the ultrasound station.
  • Ensure that machines, probes, accessories, power requirements, and necessary supplies are complete before deployment.
  • Participate in proper packing, loading, transportation, unloading, setup, dismantling, and return of ultrasound equipment.
  • Inspect equipment before and after transportation and immediately report any damage or missing components.
  • Maintain accountability for high‑value ultrasound equipment entrusted to the position during field deployment.
8. Infection Prevention, Patient Safety & Quality Assurance
  • Follow infection prevention and control requirements applicable to ultrasound examinations.
  • Maintain proper cleaning and disinfection between patients.
  • Follow applicable patient safety, privacy, and professional practice standards.
  • Participate in quality assurance activities, internal audits, competency assessments, and continuing improvement initiatives.
  • Cooperate with the development and review of ultrasound SOPs and imaging protocols.
9. EMR & Records Management
  • Accurately document completed examinations in TeleCure's EMR or designated diagnostic information system.
  • Ensure consistency among the physician request, patient information, examination performed, uploaded images, and final report.
  • Maintain confidentiality and security of patient images and health information.
  • Coordinate correction of documentation discrepancies before finalization of records.
10. Interdisciplinary Coordination
  • Coordinate with physicians, radiologists, OB‑GYN physicians, nurses, midwives, reception personnel, medical records personnel, and other healthcare professionals as necessary.
  • Assist Clinic and Onsite Operations in maintaining efficient ultrasound patient flow.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, training, and quality improvement activities.
  • Perform other diagnostic imaging responsibilities within the individual's professional scope, competency, and assigned duties.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

Education: Bachelor’s degree in a 4-year Allied Health course (e.g. Radiologic Technology, Nursing, Medical Technology, etc.)
