DATEM INC. is seeking a Safety Officer to lead on-site safety across construction sites in the Philippines. You will perform regular inspections, enforce protocols, and conduct toolbox talks and drills to ensure safe work practices.
You will coordinate with management, investigate incidents, and maintain thorough safety records. The role requires a Bachelor’s degree with COSH certification and 2+ years in construction safety, with strong communication and analytical skills to drive safety
Perform regular site inspections and identify potential hazards to ensure safe work practices are followed, and issue non-compliance notices when necessary.
Enforce safety protocols to prevent accidents and injuries.
Organize and conduct toolbox meetings, safety orientations, and emergency drills.
Ensure that all workers adhere to safety requirements and are properly trained in the handling of construction equipment and tools.
Coordinate with the Project Manager and Safety Supervisor in addressing site concerns.
Investigate accidents and near-misses, document findings, recommend corrective actions, and introduce preventive measures to avoid recurrence.
Ensure that all stakeholders, including subcontractors, comply with safety policies, rules, regulations, and all statutory requirements.
Act as an adviser on all matters pertaining to on-site safety.
Prepare and submit safety status reports to the Safety Supervisor and Project Manager.
Participate in the inspection of plans for new construction, alterations, and renovations from a safety perspective.
Maintain accurate records of inspections and incidents for reference and monitoring of safety activities.
Serve as a role model for safety, promoting a culture of accountability, awareness, and proactive hazard reporting among site personnel.
Ensure compliance with all Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) legal requirements.
Liaise with government authorities (DOLE, DENR, DOH, etc.).
Assist in the preparation for and participation in audits such as project internal and external EHS audits, DOLE-BWC safety audits, and similar assessments.
Assist government inspectors during the conduct of Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) inspections whenever work is being performed, or during accident investigations, by providing necessary information and OSH reports in accordance with OSH standards.
Assist in the development and implementation of Project Safety and Health Programs.
Collaborate with the Project Manager to integrate safety measures into project planning and scheduling.
Implement and manage Crisis Management Plans for construction sites.
Issue Work Stoppage Orders (WSO) when necessary, based on the requirements and procedures prescribed by OSH standards.
Bachelor’s degree in any discipline.
Holder of COSH (Construction Occupational Safety and Health) Certification.
Additional certifications such as BOSH, First Aid, BLS, and ISO 45001 are considered an advantage.
DOLE-accredited OSH Practitioner Certification is a plus.
Work Experience
Minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience as a Safety Officer in the construction industry.
Proven experience in conducting site inspections, toolbox meetings, incident investigations, and safety training sessions.
Knowledge of emergency drills and emergency response procedures.
Knowledge of Crisis Management.
Familiarity with DOLE, OSHC, and other government-mandated safety documentation and reporting requirements.
Knowledge of Philippine OSH laws and standards (RA 11058, DO 198-18).
Proficiency in risk assessment, JHA/JSA preparation, and workplace hazard control.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Good problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking abilities.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
Strong attention to detail.
