Job summary

Capital1 Solar Energy Corp. seeks an experienced Head of Plant Operations to lead day-to-day operation and maintenance of its power plants, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient performance in line with procedures and regulations.

You will develop and implement operating procedures, monitor KPIs, manage budgets, oversee maintenance strategies, and drive continuous improvement while promoting safety and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day operation and maintenance of the power plants; supervise Plant Superintendents.
• Ensure safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations per procedures and regulations.
• Develop, implement, and improve operating procedures to optimize performance and asset utilization.
• Monitor operating conditions and performance trends; initiate corrective actions.
• Ensure targets for availability, reliability, generation, efficiency, and performance.
• Develop and monitor KPIs.
• Lead preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance planning and documentation.
• Set maintenance priorities based on criticality, risks, and impact.
• Resolve equipment deficiencies and reliability issues promptly.
• Review maintenance strategies and maximize asset life; minimize outages.
• Manage critical spare parts, tools, and resources for reliability.
• Set priorities and allocate resources to meet objectives.
• Develop, manage, and monitor operating and performance budgets.
• Identify opportunities for efficiencies and cost optimization without compromising safety.
• Monitor performance against budgets and plans; implement corrective actions.
• Lead and motivate staff to high performance, safety, and professionalism.
• Set clear performance expectations and accountabilities across the plant.
• Ensure staffing, training, and succession planning for critical functions.
• Promote safety culture, discipline, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
• Communicate policies, directions, and priorities across the organization.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, energy, electrical, grid, and regulatory requirements.
• Promote safe work practices and HS&E policy adherence.
• Coordinate with regulators, grid operators, and external stakeholders.
• Ensure timely submission of regulatory and compliance reports.
• Establish and monitor key plant performance indicators.
• Analyze data to identify risks, opportunities, and improvements.
• Ensure reports are accurate, complete, and timely.
• Regularly report performance and risks to senior management.
• Provide recommendations on operational, maintenance, and capital needs.
• Interface with regulators, grid operators, contractors, and stakeholders.
• Maintain relationships with stakeholders for reliable operations.
• Represent the Company in meetings, audits, and related activities.
• Identify and mitigate operational, safety, and business risks; drive actions.
• Lead root-cause analysis for major failures and outages.
• Develop and implement corrective and preventive actions.
• Drive continuous improvement for availability, reliability, safety, and cost.
• Ensure lessons learned are incorporated into procedures and strategies.
• Perform other related and ancillary duties as assigned.
• Exercise authority to manage plant operations in line with policies.

Job description

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Plant Operations and Reliability

• Provide overall leadership and direction in the day-to-day operation and maintenance of the power plants. Supervises Plant Superintendents.

• Ensure safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations in accordance with approved operating procedures, technical standards, and applicable regulations.

• Develop, implement, and continuously improve operating procedures to optimize plant performance, availability, reliability, and asset utilization.

• Monitor plant operating conditions, performance trends, and key operating parameters, and initiate timely corrective actions when required.

• Ensure the plant achieves established targets for availability, reliability, generation, efficiency, and operational performance.

• Develop and monitor KPIs

2. Maintenance and Asset Management

• Ensure preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs are properly planned, implemented, and documented.

• Establish maintenance priorities based on equipment criticality, reliability risks, operational requirements, and business impact.

• Ensure timely resolution of equipment deficiencies, recurring failures, and reliability issues.

• Review and evaluate maintenance strategies and recommend improvements to maximize asset life and minimize unplanned outages.

• Ensure proper management of critical spare parts, tools, equipment, and other resources necessary for plant reliability.

3. Planning, Budgeting, and Cost Management

• Establish organizational priorities and allocate resources effectively to achieve plant business and operational objectives.

• Develop, manage, and monitor the plant’s operating and performance budgets, ensuring expenditures are properly controlled and aligned with approved plans.

• Identify opportunities for operational efficiencies, cost optimization, and continuous improvement without compromising safety, reliability, and compliance.

• Monitor plant performance against approved budgets, targets, and business plans and implement appropriate corrective measures.

4. People and Organizational Leadership

• Lead, develop, and motivate plant operations and maintenance personnel to achieve high standards of performance, accountability, safety, and professionalism.

• Establish clear performance expectations, priorities, and accountability across the plant organization.

• Ensure adequate staffing, competency development, training, and succession planning for critical plant functions.

• Promote a strong culture of safety, operational discipline, teamwork, continuous improvement, and employee accountability.

• Communicate and implement Company policies, strategic directions, and organizational priorities.

5. Health, Safety, Environment, and Regulatory Compliance

• Ensure full compliance with applicable health, safety, environmental, energy, electrical, grid, and regulatory requirements, including relevant WESM and other applicable industry requirements.

• Promote and enforce safe work practices and ensure that plant activities are conducted in accordance with approved HS&E policies and procedures.

• Coordinate with regulatory agencies, government authorities, grid operators, and other external stakeholders as required.

• Ensure timely submission of regulatory, operational, and compliance reports.

6. Performance Management and Reporting

• Establish, monitor, and evaluate key plant performance indicators and operational metrics.

• Analyze operational and maintenance data to identify trends, risks, opportunities, and areas for improvement.

• Ensure plant operating, maintenance, financial, and regulatory reports are accurate, complete, timely, and properly documented.

• Regularly communicate plant performance, significant events, risks, issues, and recommended actions to senior management.

• Provide management with timely recommendations on major operational, maintenance, reliability, and capital requirements.

7. Stakeholder and External Relations

• Serve as the primary plant management interface with regulatory agencies, grid operators, contractors, service providers, local stakeholders, and other external parties.

• Maintain effective working relationships with key stakeholders to facilitate reliable plant operations and timely resolution of operational issues.

• Represent the Company in meetings, inspections, audits, and other activities as authorized by management.

8. Continuous Improvement and Risk Management

• Identify operational, maintenance, safety, and business risks that may affect plant performance and implement appropriate mitigation measures.

• Lead or support root-cause analysis of major equipment failures, forced outages, incidents, and significant performance deviations.

• Develop and implement corrective and preventive action plans.

• Promote continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing plant availability, reliability, efficiency, safety, and cost effectiveness.

• Ensure lessons learned from operational events and equipment failures are incorporated into plant procedures and maintenance strategies.

9. Other Responsibilities

• Perform other related and ancillary functions that may be assigned or delegated by Management from time to time.

• Exercise such authority and responsibility as may be necessary to effectively manage plant operations, subject to Company policies, approved delegations of authority, and applicable regulations.
