Responsibilities

Education:

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred.

• Engineering degree in a related technical field may also be considered.

Professional License:

• Licensed Mechanical Engineer (LME) is highly preferred.

• Relevant technical certifications are an advantage.

Experience:

• At least 5–8 years of relevant experience in plant operations, manufacturing, industrial facilities, mechanical maintenance, or engineering management.

• Preferably with 2–3 years of supervisory or managerial experience.

• Experience in managing industrial machinery, mechanical systems, maintenance operations, and plant facilities is highly preferred.

• Experience in a manufacturing, industrial, utility, or engineering environment is an advantage.

Technical Competencies:

• Strong knowledge of mechanical equipment and industrial machinery.

• Preventive and predictive maintenance management.

• Equipment troubleshooting and failure analysis.

• Mechanical installation, alignment, and commissioning.

• Familiarity with pumps, motors, compressors, piping systems, valves, hydraulic/pneumatic systems, and other industrial equipment.

• Knowledge of plant utilities and facility systems.

• Understanding of occupational safety and environmental requirements.

• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, equipment manuals, and technical documents.

• Knowledge of maintenance planning and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) is an advantage.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and preparation of technical and operational reports.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

A. Plant Operations Management

• Oversee and manage the day-to-day operations of the Tshuneshie Plant to ensure safe, efficient, and continuous plant operations.

• Monitor plant activities, production processes, equipment performance, and operational requirements.

• Ensure that all plant activities are performed in accordance with company policies, procedures, and operational standards.

• Coordinate with management regarding plant operations, requirements, issues, and improvement initiatives.

• Ensure proper scheduling and allocation of manpower, equipment, and resources.

• Monitor plant productivity, operational efficiency, and equipment utilization.

B. Mechanical Equipment and Maintenance

• Supervise the operation, inspection, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of mechanical equipment and machinery.

• Ensure proper implementation of preventive and corrective maintenance programs.

• Monitor equipment condition and identify potential mechanical problems before they result in major breakdowns.

• Conduct initial assessment and root-cause analysis of equipment failures and recurring breakdowns.

• Ensure timely response to equipment breakdowns and minimize unplanned downtime.

• Review maintenance schedules, work orders, equipment records, and maintenance reports.

• Coordinate with maintenance personnel, contractors, and technical service providers for major repairs and specialized works.

• Recommend equipment repair, replacement, modification, or upgrading when necessary.

• Ensure proper installation, testing, alignment, commissioning, and safe operation of mechanical equipment.

• Monitor the availability and proper storage of critical spare parts, tools, and maintenance materials.

C. Plant Facilities and Utilities

• Monitor the condition and operational performance of plant facilities, utilities, piping systems, pumps, motors, valves, and other mechanical systems.

• Ensure timely repair and maintenance of plant buildings, facilities, and utility systems.

• Conduct regular inspections of equipment and plant facilities.

• Coordinate facility improvement and repair activities with concerned departments.

• Ensure proper housekeeping, cleanliness, and orderliness of the entire plant premises.

D. Safety and Compliance

• Ensure strict implementation of company safety policies, procedures, and applicable occupational safety requirements.

• Conduct regular workplace and equipment safety inspections.

• Ensure proper use of PPE and compliance with safe work practices.

• Identify hazards and implement appropriate corrective and preventive measures.

• Immediately report accidents, incidents, unsafe conditions, equipment hazards, and other safety concerns.

• Participate in safety meetings, toolbox meetings, emergency drills, and incident investigations.

• Ensure that contractors and visitors comply with plant safety requirements.

E. Manpower Supervision

• Supervise, lead, and monitor assigned plant operations and maintenance personnel.

• Assign daily tasks and responsibilities based on operational priorities and manpower requirements.

• Monitor attendance, work performance, productivity, discipline, and compliance with company rules.

• Provide technical guidance, coaching, and support to plant personnel.

• Identify employee training and competency requirements and coordinate with HR and management.

• Promote teamwork, accountability, discipline, and a positive working environment.

F. Quality and Process Improvement

• Ensure plant activities and processes are performed according to established quality and operational standards.

• Monitor recurring operational and equipment-related problems and initiate corrective actions.

• Identify opportunities to improve plant efficiency, equipment reliability, productivity, and safety.

• Recommend and implement approved process, equipment, and maintenance improvements.

• Support continuous improvement programs and other company initiatives.

G. Materials, Tools, and Cost Control

• Monitor the proper use of plant materials, spare parts, tools, equipment, and other resources.

• Ensure proper inventory and availability of critical maintenance materials and spare parts.

• Review maintenance and operational requests and ensure that resources are used appropriately.

• Monitor plant operating and maintenance expenses.

• Identify opportunities to reduce unnecessary costs while maintaining safety, quality, and operational reliability.

H. Documentation and Reporting

• Prepare and submit daily, weekly, and monthly reports on plant operations, maintenance, equipment performance, manpower, and other activities.

• Maintain accurate records of equipment breakdowns, downtime, repairs, preventive maintenance, inspections, and facility activities.

• Monitor plant performance against established targets and KPIs.

• Immediately escalation critical operational, mechanical, safety, or manpower concerns to management.

• Provide recommendations and technical reports to management for necessary plant improvements and corrective actions.

I. Coordination and Communication

• Coordinate with Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, HR, Safety, Finance, Procurement, and other concerned departments regarding plant requirements.

• Liaise with suppliers, contractors, service providers, and other external parties for plant-related activities.

• Attend meetings and provide updates regarding plant performance, operational concerns, and maintenance requirements.

• Ensure clear communication of instructions, schedules, priorities, and plant policies to assigned personnel.

J. Other Responsibilities

• Perform other duties and responsibilities that may be assigned by management from time to time.

• Ensure that all activities under the OIC's supervision are conducted safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company standards.
