You will manage loads from initial booking through final delivery—ensuring 100% load coverage, leveraging digital automation, and rapidly resolving transit incidents to deliver best-in-class customer service.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
Carrier Sourcing & Relationship Management
Actively source and engage new and existing carriers to increase daily freight capacity based on lane density and volume.
Serve as the primary point of contact for carrier onboarding, due diligence, and compliance checks to prevent service failures.
Oversee freight board execution and maintain active coverage across all assigned lanes.
Rate Negotiation & Strategy
Sell available loads by negotiating competitive freight rates with carriers while maximizing margin.
Meet and exceed monthly revenue, volume, and performance goals set by department leadership.
Collaborate internally on account implementation, mode strategy, and pricing models based on current market trends and seasonality.
Tracking, Tracing & Automation
Prioritize high-urgency loads on the loadboard and execute proactive check-calls and event-logging.
Onboard and enable drivers on tracking tools (e.g., MacroPoint), actively resolving lost tracking or late-runner alerts.
Drive technology adoption to keep week-to-week automation usage above 90%.
Incident Resolution & Operations
Rapidly address transit emergencies (driver fall-offs, breakdowns, damaged/rejected goods, TONUs, and detention).
Ask critical, analytical questions during incidents to drive quick solutions rather than just passing along surface-level updates.
Process accessorials, detention fees, and Comchecks efficiently.
Hand off load updates seamlessly to on-duty team members to ensure uninterrupted 24/7 service.
Key Performance Indicators (Success Metrics)
Achieving 100% accepted load coverage with zero givebacks or failures.
Maintaining over 90% weekly automation usage across assigned shipments.
Consistently hitting or exceeding monthly department margin and volume targets.
Qualifications & Core Competencies
Industry Knowledge: Firm understanding of freight market dynamics, seasonal shifts, geography, and specialized carrier types.
Negotiation & Persuasion: Proven ability to influence, persuade, and execute rate strategies in a dynamic market environment.
Problem-Solving & Stress Management: Strong critical-thinking skills to resolve high-stress transit incidents quickly and decisively.
Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills for negotiating with drivers and aligning with internal teams.
Technical Proficiency: Fluent with computer software, loadboards, and real-time tracking platforms (e.g., MacroPoint).
Teamwork & Adaptability: Ability to manage ambiguity, step up for added team responsibilities, and maintain strong professional relations.
