Design Staff Australia is seeking a commercially minded Business Development and Pipeline Specialist for a 3-month project-based engagement. You will identify opportunities, research prospects and qualify leads across Australia to build a robust sales pipeline.
You will own outreach via email, LinkedIn and telephone, nurture relationships, and hand over qualified opportunities to the Australian commercial lead for further sales discussions, working with a proactive, curious mindset.
We are looking for a commercially minded Business Development and Pipeline Specialist to support an Australian Events Services and Management business on a 3-month project-based engagement. The engagement will have a clearly defined scope, project timeline and deliverables, with clear expectations for each stage of the project.
The role will focus on identifying business opportunities, researching and qualifying prospects, identifying decision‑makers, conducting targeted outreach and follow‑up, and maintaining an active sales pipeline. The successful contractor will work closely with the Australian commercial lead and take ownership of opportunities through the initial outreach and qualification stage, with qualified opportunities handed over for further sales discussions.

Research and identify relevant business opportunities, exhibitions, events, companies and potential customers across Australia.
Systematically work through supplied prospect lists to identify, qualify and progress relevant opportunities.
Identify qualified prospects and decision‑makers, including relevant contact details and business information.
Assess and prioritize prospects based on commercial fit, potential requirements, previous exhibition activity and timing.
Conduct targeted and personalized email, LinkedIn and telephone outreach.
Follow up consistently, respond professionally to initial enquiries and progress interested prospects.
Handover qualified, sales‑ready opportunities to the Australian commercial lead.
Maintain accurate CRM and pipeline records, including contacts, outreach, responses, follow‑ups and next actions.
Provide practical market intelligence to help identify worthwhile opportunities.
Work independently and proactively, focusing on pipeline progression rather than activity volume.
2–4 years’ experience in business development, market research, business opportunity research, lead generation, B2B prospecting, or a similar commercial role.
Experience in market intelligence, sales research or pipeline development.
Excellent written and spoken English, with strong professional communication skills
Proven experience in online business, company and prospect research.
Experience identifying decision‑makers and qualifying B2B prospects.
Experience with E‑mail, LinkedIn outreach.
Familiarity with CRM systems, spreadsheets and online business tools.
Strong organization, attention to detail and follow‑up discipline.
Ability to manage multiple prospects independently and exercise commercial judgement.
Experience using AI-assisted tools to support business opportunity research, prospect qualification, contact research, market intelligence
Previous experience working with Australian clients or the Australian market.
Experience with managing CRM platforms.
Background in events, exhibitions, marketing, creative agencies, production, construction or professional services.
Familiarity with Australian business communication and professional expectations.
