Job Summary:
The Baker/Pastry Cook is responsible for preparing and producing quality baked goods, pastries, sandwiches, and other food items while maintaining proper food safety and sanitation standards. The role requires attention to detail, consistency, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced retail environment.
Job Responsibilities:
1. Baking and Pastry Production
- Prepare and produce various baked goods, pastries, sandwiches, and other food items according to established recipes and product standards.
- Follow proper baking procedures, including accurate measuring, mixing, proofing, baking, cooling, and finishing.
- Operate and properly handle ovens, mixers, and other baking and pastry equipment.
- Ensure proper portioning, product consistency, quality, and presentation.
- Maintain proper handling and storage of ingredients and finished products.
2. Ingredient Inventory and Stocking
- Monitor and maintain proper inventory levels of ingredients, packaging materials, and other baking supplies.
- Check the quality, freshness, quantity, and expiration dates of ingredients upon receipt and during storage.
- Properly stock and organize ingredients according to storage and food safety requirements.
- Apply proper FIFO (First In, First Out) practices to minimize waste and prevent expired ingredients from being used.
- Report low-stock, damaged, expired, or insufficient ingredients to the appropriate personnel.
- Assist in monitoring product usage and preparing ingredient requirements for daily production.
3. Food Safety and Sanitation
- Follow proper food safety, hygiene, and sanitation procedures at all times.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of workstations, baking equipment, tools, storage areas, and the surrounding production area.
- Properly handle, label, cover, and store ingredients and finished products.
- Ensure proper waste segregation and disposal.
- Monitor the freshness and quality of ingredients and finished products.
4. Retail Store Operations
- Maintain a clean, organized, and presentable baking and food preparation area within the retail store.
- Work efficiently while maintaining product quality in a fast-paced retail environment.
- Perform other baking, pastry, and food preparation duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications
- Graduate of Culinary Arts, Baking and Pastry Arts, Hospitality Management, or any related program is preferred.
- TESDA Baking and Pastry Production certification or relevant baking training is an advantage.
- Preferably with at least 6 months of experience in baking, pastry production, food preparation, or a related field.
- Skilled in preparing and baking various pastries, breads, cakes, and other baked products.
- Familiar with basic dough preparation, mixing, portioning, baking, and product finishing.
- Proficient in the proper use and basic maintenance of pastry and baking equipment.
- Knowledgeable in proper food handling, hygiene, sanitation, and food safety practices.
- Able to accurately follow recipes, measurements, production procedures, and quality standards.
- Detail-oriented, organized, and committed to maintaining product quality and consistency.
- Willing to work in a fast-paced retail store environment and meet production requirements.
- Flexible and willing to perform various baking, pastry, food preparation, and other related tasks as needed.
- Fresh graduates and candidates with relevant TESDA training may be considered.
