Job summary

The Superette is seeking a Store Manager in Auckland to lead day‑to‑day operations, staff management and customer service at Omaha Beach location. This permanent, full‑time role offers a minimum of 40 hours per week with growth under Owner support.

We are seeking an experienced and passionate individual to join our friendly grocery store team as Store Manager . This is a permanent, full-time position, offering a minimum of 40 hours per week. The Store Manager is responsible for the overall day-to-day leadership, performance and operation of the store. The Store Manager is the primary operational point of contact for the business.

Job Description:

Location: Omaha Beach, Auckland Region, New Zealand

Pay Rate: NZD $28 – $35 per hour (based on skills and experience)

This role offers a great career growth opportunity with full support from the Owner. You'll take on key leadership responsibilities, ensuring the success of our store through effective staff management, compliance, and daily operations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Take overall responsibility for the daily operation of the store, including opening, closing, staffing, replenishment, presentation, customer service and operational continuity
  • Lead, manage, train and motivate the team, setting clear expectations and maintaining high standards of performance, conduct and customer service.
  • Manage staff rosters, attendance, leave and sick cover to ensure appropriate staffing levels while controlling wage costs.
  • Oversee ordering, stock levels, stock rotation, stocktakes, receiving and triage of incoming goods, ensuring shelves, fridges and displays are consistently full and well presented.
  • Manage supplier relationships and purchasing, including pricing, product availability, quality, terms and alternative supply solutions when products are unavailable.
  • Monitor store sales, gross profit, wastage and other key operating costs, and take practical action to improve business performance.
  • Ensure merchandising, promotional activity and store presentation maximise sales and maintain The
  • Superette’s high visual standards.
  • Oversee cash handling, till balancing, ensuring accurate records and appropriate security of cash, keys and alarms.
  • Ensure compliance with the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012, food safety requirements, Health & Safety obligations, licensing conditions and company policies.
  • Handle customer enquiries, complaints and operational issues promptly and professionally, protecting the reputation of the business.
  • Identify maintenance requirements and arrange repairs or service contractors as needed to minimise disruption and protect store assets.
  • Drive the company van or vehicle to collect stock and supplies where required to maintain availability.
  • Work closely with the Owner–Operator on business priorities, seasonal planning, new initiatives and growth opportunities, and take responsibility for implementing agreed actions.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Deliver a store that is well staffed, well stocked, clean, safe, compliant and ready for trade each day.
  • Maintain strong availability and presentation across grocery, chilled, frozen and other store categories, with effective ordering and minimal avoidable out-of-stocks.
  • Maintain appropriate staffing coverage and proactively resolve roster or attendance issues without routine reliance on the Owner–Operator.
  • Maintain accurate operational and financial processes, including cash controls, stock management and record keeping.
  • Ensure staff are appropriately trained, supervised and held accountable for their responsibilities and performance.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for staff, suppliers, delivery drivers, contractors and customers on day-to-day operational matters.
  • Proactively identify and resolve operational problems, escalating significant financial, legal, staffing or reputational matters to the Owner–Operator as appropriate.
  • Maintain business continuity during busy periods, staff absences, supplier shortages, equipment failures and other operational disruptions.
  • Support achievement of sales, margin and cost-control objectives and contribute ideas that improve profitability, efficiency and customer experience.
PEOPLE LEADERSHIP
  • Lead by example and create a positive, accountable and customer-focused team culture.
  • Provide clear direction, regular feedback, coaching and on-the-job training.
  • Address performance, conduct and attendance issues promptly and consistently, involving the Owner–Operator where formal action is required.
  • Ensure new team members are inducted and understand store procedures, food safety, health and safety, alcohol compliance and customer service expectations.
  • Promote teamwork across all areas of the business and ensure effective communication between shifts and team members.
COMPLIANCE
  • Maintain a current Duty Manager Certificate under the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012.
  • Ensure the store complies with food safety, Health & Safety, alcohol licensing and all other applicable legislative and company requirements.
  • Ensure required checks, records, training and corrective actions are completed and maintained.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Required:

  • At least 3 years' relevant experience, OR a relevant NZQF Diploma‑level qualification (or equivalent)
  • Current Duty Manager Certificate (Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012).
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to drive a van or company vehicle for stock collection.
  • Strong leadership, communication, organization and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and make sound operational decisions.
  • Physically fit and able to perform the practical requirements of the role.
Preferred:
  • Previous retail grocery, supermarket, convenience retail or food service management experience.
  • Experience managing staff rosters, stock, suppliers and day‑to‑day store operations.
  • Understanding of food safety, retail compliance, inventory control and financial performance measures
