Qualifications

• Minimum 2-3 years of hands-on experience in a busy retail or FMCG environment.

Browns Road Superette is a well-established family-owned convenience store located at 112 Browns Road, Manurewa, Auckland. We are seeking an experienced, proactive, and dynamic Retail Store Manager to take full operational and strategic control of our store, drive business performance, and lead our team. This is a permanent, full-time role requiring flexibility across Monday to Sunday on a rotating roster (between 8am to 8pm).

Your main responsibilities include:

• Store & Operational Management: Planning, organizing, and controlling the day-to-day operations of the superette, setting and improving storeprocedures and operational service standards.
• Inventory & Purchasing Management: Managing inventory levels, determining the total product mix, establishing and maintaining supplier relationships, negotiating terms with suppliers, and implementing purchasing and stock control policies.
• Marketing & Sales Promotion: Developing local store marketing, creating promotional campaigns and advertising strategies, managing product placement, and actively selling goods while advising customers on product use.
• Financial & Pricing Control: Undertaking store budgeting, monitoring cost and sales metrics, setting retail prices, and maintaining accurate financial and sales records.
• Staff Leadership & HR Governance: Exercising full authority over staff recruitment, hiring, performance reviews, wage budgeting, rostering, staff development, and managing workplace resolutions/terminations.
• Customer Service Excellence: Maintaining high service standards, resolving escalated customer inquiries, and managing sales floor presentation.
• Compliance & Safety: Ensuring full compliance with health and safety regulations, food safety standards, employment regulations , and security protocols.

Requirements

• Experience: Minimum 2 -3 years of hands-on experience in a customer-facing, busy retail, convenience store, or FMCG environment .
• Systems Proficiency: Strong experience operating POS systems, handling daily cash reconcilements, and utilizing inventory control tools .
• Commercial Acumen: Strong financial literacy, budgeting capabilities, and mathematical skills for profit margin analysis and operational cost management.
• Leadership & Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills to report to ownership, negotiate with suppliers, and lead staff.
• Physical Capability: Ability to stand for extended periods and perform stock handling/inventory management (lifting up to 20kg).
• Flexibility & Reliability: Must be available for early morning, evening, weekend, and rotating roster shifts, including covering shift gaps when required.
• Pre-employment Checks: Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test, police vetting, and provide verifiable reference checks. Ongoing random drug testing applies as part of health and safety policies.
