Norwood is seeking a Service Foreman for our Mosgiel workshop to lead hands‑on diagnostics, repairs and everyday operations. You will guide technicians and apprentices, ensuring high workmanship standards while maintaining safety and productivity in a busy service environment.

The role emphasizes customer‑facing service excellence, teamwork, and continuous improvement across our nationwide Norwood network. Industrial machinery experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• NZ Level 4 Automotive Trade Qualification required.
• 3+ years servicing agricultural/construction machinery.
• Strong diagnostic and fault‑finding skills.
• Experience supervising or mentoring team is beneficial.

About the Role

The Service Foreman plays a key role in ensuring our Mosgiel service department operates efficiently and safely. A large part of your day will be hands‑on in the workshop; managing escalated diagnostics and repairs, providing technical support to our workshop team and overseeing jobs to ensure a high standard of workmanship and minimal re‑work is achieved.

You will provide crucial support to the Service Supervisor and Dealership Manager to ensure the workshop operates at peak efficiency, supervise a team of technicians and apprentices, and champion adherence to Norwood's Health & Safety practices.

What you will do

Working alongside the Service Manager and Dealership Manager, you will provide technical leadership, support workshop productivity, and foster a positive team culture that delivers exceptional outcomes for our customers.

Key responsibilities include:

• Leading by example through hands‑on involvement in complex diagnostics, servicing, and repair work.
• Providing technical guidance and support to technicians and apprentices, assisting with troubleshooting and escalated repairs.
• Supervising workshop staff to ensure work is completed efficiently, safely, and in line with manufacturer and company standards.
• Monitoring job progress, quality of workmanship, and workshop productivity to minimise rework and maximise customer satisfaction.
• Maintaining a safe, organised, and productive workshop environment ensuring compliance with all Norwood Health & Safety policies, procedures, and legislative requirements.
• Building strong relationships with customers by providing professional advice and ensuring service expectations are met.
• Assisting with workflow management, prioritisation of jobs, and continuous improvement initiatives within the service department.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• NZ Level 4 Automotive Trade Qualification and/or a minimum of 3 years' experience servicing and repairing agricultural, construction, or heavy diesel machinery.
• Excellent diagnostic and fault‑finding skills, with the ability to efficiently identify and resolve mechanical and technical issues.
• Previous experience supervising or mentoring team would be advantageous.
• A sound understanding of farming, construction, and ground care equipment and industry practices.
• Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.
• A positive attitude, a strong work ethic, and a commitment to continuous improvement and workplace safety.
