Job description

Jora New Zealand will close on 9th September 2026. Thank you for being with us, we are cheering you on as you continue your career journey.

Epic Hospitality - Wellington, North Island

We're after an experienced Senior Security Host to anchor the door at [Venue]. This isn't an entry-level crowd control role. You'll be the most senior person on the door on your shifts, and the first person our guests, our bar team and our duty manager look to when something needs handling.

What the job actually involves
  • Running the door: ID checks, host responsibility obligations, capacity, refusing entry and refusing service where it's warranted.
  • Reading the room before anything happens — the job is mostly prevention, not response
  • De-escalating: talking situations down, walking people out calmly, keeping incidents off the floor and out of the news
  • Supporting less experienced hosts on shift, and modelling how we want the door run
  • Clear, accurate incident reporting and working constructively with Police and licensing when needed
  • Being a genuine host, not just a guard — most of the night is greeting people and making the venue feel looked after
What you'll need
  • A current Certificate of Approval (Crowd Controller / Security Guard). Non-negotiable — we can't roster you without it
  • Several years of hands-on experience on licensed premises, not just static or event work
  • A track record of resolving conflict with words. We measure a good night by what didn't happen
  • Solid working knowledge of the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act and host responsibility
  • Reliability under a set roster — you turn up, on time, every rostered shift
  • Reliable transport home after late finishes
  • Current first aid certificate (or willingness to get one — we'll cover it)
Who this suits

Someone with real experience behind them who wants steady, well-paid shifts alongside study, and who takes the professional side of this work seriously. If you're studying part-time, doing postgrad, or came back to study after time in the workforce, this is built for you. We’re not looking for someone to fill a gap for a semester — we want someone who’ll still be on our door in two years.

What we offer
  • $35-40/hr, a genuine senior rate that reflects the experience we're asking for
  • Free gym, swim or yoga membership
  • Free access to counselling services
  • Staff discount across the group
  • Regular consistent training and support
  • Weekly revenue share/bonus scheme

Our venues operate a drug and alcohol policy covering pre-employment testing and testing for cause. Applicants must be legally entitled to work in New Zealand.
