Te Papa Tongarewa in Wellington is seeking a professional, reliable Security Officer to join our night‑shift security team. You will help protect people, buildings and collections while delivering a welcoming and responsive service to visitors and staff.
This 12‑hour night shift, four days on and four days off, runs 7:00 pm to 7:00 am. You will patrol, perform security checks, report incidents and follow procedures with manaakitanga, whanaungatanga and auahatanga in mind.

We're looking for a professional, reliable and approachable Security Officer to join our team at the Museum of New Zealand, Te Papa Tongarewa. Working as part of a dedicated security team, you'll help protect Te Papa's people, buildings, and collections while providing a welcoming and responsive service to our visitors and colleagues.

Purpose of the position
This is a night-shift role that operates from 7.00pm to 7.00am (12-hour shifts), ensuring a safe and secure environment across the museum. You'll have strong working relationships with colleagues and be confident working independently and as part of a team, responding effectively to security matters and following established procedures to a high standard.
Everyday you'll work in a way that reflects manaakitanga (care and respect), builds whanaungatanga (strong relationships), and encourages auahatanga (creativity).

This is a full-time position, 12-hour shifts between the hours of 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM (four days on - four days off) based at Te Papa Tongarewa, Cable Street Wellington.

Applicants must have the legal right to work in New Zealand. Pre-employment checks will be undertaken prior to any offer of employment, including reference checking, NZ police vetting and a pre-employment medical assessment.
The starting salary for this position will be between $60,218 - $62,811 per annum with further room for progression through the band. Offers will be made within this range based on skills, experience and internal relativities.
Shortlisted applicants may be required to complete a short security related report writing assessment as a part of the recruitment process.
