Job summary

Coastal Taranaki School seeks an experienced SENCo to lead identification, coordination and review of learning support across Years 0–13. You will work with teachers, ākonga, whānau and external agencies to develop responsive pathways and strengthen schoolwide systems.

A key component is growing Te Hāpai Ako for enrichment and targeted support, recognizing strengths and potential. You will model collaborative leadership and equity-focused practice across the kura.

Coastal Taranaki School is seeking an experienced, highly relational and capable educator to lead learning support and inclusive practice across our unique Years 0–13 kura.

This is a significant schoolwide role with responsibility for strengthening the systems, practices and partnerships that ensure our ākonga are known, appropriately supported, challenged and able to experience success.

As our Special Education Needs Coordinator (SENCo, you will lead the identification, coordination, monitoring and review of learning support across Years 0–13. You will work closely with teachers, teacher aides, ākonga, whānau, Ministry of Education Learning Support and other agencies to develop responsive and effective pathways for learners with diverse and additional needs.

A key component of the position will be coordinating and continuing to develop Te Hāpai Ako, our schoolwide framework for enrichment, extension and responsive learning support. We want this framework to recognise not only where learners require additional support, but also their strengths, interests, talents and potential.

• has strong knowledge and experience in inclusive education and learning support;
• provides confident and collaborative professional leadership;
• is highly relational and able to build trusted partnerships with ākonga, whānau, staff and external agencies;
• can develop clear, sustainable systems and ensure effective follow-through;
• can support and grow teacher and teacher aide capability;
• uses evidence and data to identify needs, inform decisions and evaluate impact;
• understands the opportunities and complexities of supporting learners across Years 0–13;
• is committed to giving effect to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and improving equitable outcomes for ākonga; and
• can contribute positively to the wider strategic priorities and ongoing development of our kura.
