Job summary

Kuranui Primary School in the Waikato invites an experienced and inclusive educator to lead learning support across Years 1–8. This 0.2 FTE role is one day a week and requires collaboration with teachers, whānau and external agencies to ensure timely, practical support for ākonga.

You will develop IEPs, monitor progress, and coordinate referrals with RTLB and the Ministry of Education. A culturally responsive Tiriti-based approach is essential, with the day to be negotiated.

Qualifications

• Holds current New Zealand teacher registration and certification.
• Experience supporting neurodivergent ākonga and others with additional learning needs.
• Understands inclusive education, Universal Design for Learning and culturally responsive practice.
• Communicates clearly and handles sensitive information professionally.
• Honours Te Tiriti o Waitangi in practice.
• Is organised, takes initiative and can prioritise in a one-day-a-week role.

Responsibilities

• Identify ākonga who may need additional support and coordinate the response.
• Work with ākonga, whānau and staff to develop useful IEPs, learning plans and transition plans.
• Keep clear records and monitor whether the support provided is making a difference.
• Coordinate referrals and applications involving RTLB, the Ministry of Education and other specialist services.
• Support teachers and teacher aides with practical advice, modelling and coaching.
• Build trusting, culturally responsive relationships with ākonga and whānau.
• Help grow an inclusive, strengths-based and neurodiversity-affirming culture across the school.

Kuranui Primary School is looking for an experienced and inclusive educator to lead learning support across our kura.

This is a 0.2 position - one day a week. We need someone who understands that effective learning support begins with knowing our ākonga, recognising their strengths and working alongside the people who know them best.

You will work closely with teachers, teacher aides, school leaders, whānau and outside agencies to ensure ākonga with diverse or complex learning needs receive timely, practical and well-coordinated support.

The role includes:

The working day will be negotiated. Above all, we want someone who will advocate for our ākonga and help every learner participate, belong and succeed.
