Job summary

East Otago High School in Otago seeks an experienced and inclusive educator to lead learning support across our kura. This 0.2 FTTE role focuses on early identification, needs assessment, and co-creating support plans with the SENCO to help ākonga reach their potential.

You will collaborate with teachers, teacher aides, whānau and external agencies, maintain confidential records, and foster an inclusive culture that honours Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

Qualifications

• Holds current New Zealand teacher registration and certification.
• Experience supporting neurodivergent ākonga and others with additional learning needs.
• Understands inclusive education, Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and culturally responsive practice.
• Communicates clearly, listens well and handles sensitive information professionally.
• Is committed to honouring Te Tiriti o Waitangi in their practice.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate early identification and ongoing needs assessment of students requiring additional support or extension.
• Oversee development, implementation, and tracking of support plans and internal resource allocation in collaboration with the SENCO.
• Provide practical strategies, advice, and guidance to classroom teachers and Learning Support Assistants to foster inclusive practice.
• Build culturally responsive partnerships with whānau and serve as a key link between the school, SENCO, and external specialist agencies.
• Maintain accurate, confidential records of student support plans, intervention outcomes, and transition processes.
• Help us continue to grow an inclusive culture across our school.

East Otago High School is looking for an experienced and inclusive educator to lead learning support across our kura. This is a 0.2 FTTE position with a negotiable work schedule. We need someone who understands that effective learning support begins with knowing our ākonga, recognising their strengths and working alongside the people who know them best.

You will work closely with the SENCO, teachers, teacher aides, school leaders, whānau and outside agencies to ensure ākonga with diverse or complex learning needs receive timely, practical and well-coordinated support.

You will:

We are looking for someone who:

Experience with IEPs, ORS, RTLB and Ministry processes would be an advantage.
