Job summary

Waterview Primary School in Auckland, NZ is seeking a compassionate Teacher Aide to work with neurodiverse children in small groups. The role focuses on supporting learning, behaviour, and wellbeing under the guidance of the classroom teacher and SENCO.

The position is fixed-term, part-time (9:00am–2:30pm, Monday to Friday) from 12 October 2026 to 15 December 2026, with opportunities for training and development. Applicants must reside in NZ and have reliable transport.

Teacher Aide – Working with Neurodiverse children

About the Role:

We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Teacher Aide to work with a neurodiverse children & small groups at our school.This role requires patience, adaptability, and a strong commitment to supporting the child's learning and well-being.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide support to neurodiverse students in the classroom and other school settings.

  • Work with small groups of children supporting with learning needs.

  • Implement tailored learning strategies under the guidance of the classroom teacher and SENCO.

  • Assist with academic, social, and behavioural development in alignment with the student’s learning plan.

  • Foster a supportive and structured environment that promotes the child's confidence and independence.

  • Collaborate with teachers, specialists, and whānau to ensure consistency in support strategies.

  • Assist with sensory regulation and emotional well-being as needed.

  • Adapt tasks and materials to suit the child’s learning style and needs.

  • Provide feedback on the student’s progress and challenges to the teaching team.

Key Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with neurodiverse children in an educational or support setting (preferred).

  • Understanding of neurodiversity and inclusive education practices.

  • Ability to build strong, trusting relationships with the student, whānau, and staff.

  • Patience, empathy, and a positive approach to supporting learning and behaviour.

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

  • Willingness to learn and adapt to different teaching strategies.

  • A commitment to the values and inclusive culture of Waterview Primary School.

Additional Information:

  • This is a fixed-term, part-time position.

  • Training and professional development opportunities may be available.

  • Fixed term date: Monday 12th October 2026 - Tuesday 15th December 2026

  • This position involves active supervision and managing high-energy and wandering children.

    Physical Requirements:

    The successful applicant must be able to:

    • Move quickly and safely across school grounds to supervise or redirect children.

    • Respond promptly in situations where a child may run or attempt to leave the learning environment.

    • Be able to kneel, bend, sit on the floor, and get up without assistance.

    Remain physically active for extended periods throughout the school day.

The ideal applicant will:

  • Be able to work 9.00am - 2:30pm Mon - Fri

  • Be reliable with great time management, energetic, good with change.

  • Currently reside & eligible to work in NZ and start immediately.
