Job summary

The Devonport Primary School Board of Trustees – Devonport, North Island, invites applications for a part-time Teacher Aide to support students with emotional, behavioural and learning needs at Devonport, Auckland. You will work with teachers to provide one-on-one and small group support, fostering an inclusive learning environment.

You will contribute to a caring school community, collaborate with staff and whānau, and participate in professional development.

Qualifications

• Passion for supporting young learners and inclusive education.
• Experience with children, including those with additional learning or special needs (desirable).
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build positive relationships.
• Patience, empathy and a calm demeanour with diverse learners.
• Willingness to obtain a police check.
• Reliable with regular attendance.

Responsibilities

The Devonport Primary School Board of Trustees – Devonport, North Island

The Devonport Primary School Board of Trustees is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teacher Aide to join our teaching and learning team. This is a part-time position based in Devonport, Auckland. As a Teacher Aide, you will play a vital role in supporting students with emotional, behavioural and learning needs. You will work closely with teachers to provide additional support to learners, particularly those requiring special needs assistance, ensuring every student has the opportunity to succeed in their learning journey.

Key responsibilities

• Support students with social, emotional and behavioural needs in the classroom and around the school
• Support students with personal care needs where required, with appropriate training
• Provide student support that enhances their ability to integrate, be independent and participate more fully in school activities
• Provide one-on-one and small group learning support to students under the direction of the classroom teacher
• Monitor student progress and provide feedback to teachers regarding learning and behaviour
• Maintain confidentiality regarding student information and school policies
• Contribute to a positive, inclusive and supportive school culture
• Attend professional development and training sessions as required

• Experience working with children, particularly those with additional learning or special needs (desirable but not essential)
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships with students, teachers and whānau
• Patience, empathy and a calm, supportive demeanour when working with diverse learners
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to follow instructions from classroom teachers
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a teaching team
• A willingness to obtain a police check
• Flexibility and reliability with a commitment to regular, consistent attendance
