Job summary

Hamilton City Council is seeking a Systems Engineer to join the Digital Services - Cloud & Network Team to manage backup systems and patch management while overseeing the broader IT infrastructure.

You will support a Windows-based server environment with 150+ servers across on‑premises, private, and public clouds, using SCCM and ESX virtualization. Basic scripting is a plus, and strong communication is essential.

Qualifications

• Tertiary or industry IT qualification or equivalent experience.
• 3+ years managing and administering servers, networks, backups and patching.
• Experience with automated patch management and backup/recovery strategies.
• Active Directory administration experience.
• Experience with SCCM for automated patch deployment and ESX virtualization.
• Knowledge of networking, firewalls, DNS, and network configuration and support is preferred.
• Basic scripting knowledge (e.g., PowerShell) for automating routine tasks is a plus.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to convey technical information clearly.
• Experience in local government is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Manage, review, and automate backup systems and patch management.
• Monitor Council's IT infrastructure, networks, and processes.
• Maintain SLA targets for backup and recovery.
• Support a Windows-based server environment with 150+ servers.
• Troubleshoot user issues in Windows environment.
