Stats NZ in Wellington is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to join the Technology Services - Outputs Technical Delivery team in a permanent role. You will design, implement, administer and continuously improve the infrastructure that supports our public-facing systems.

In a hybrid environment, you will lead design activities for Azure and on‑premises platforms, drive automation and CI/CD, and mentor others while championing security and reliability.

Qualifications

• Proven experience designing, operating and supporting highly available, secure enterprise systems.
• Strong experience managing hybrid infrastructure environments, including Microsoft Azure and on-premises platforms.
• Expertise across Windows and Linux server technologies, virtualization, and infrastructure services.
• Experience with automation, CI/CD, source control and continuous improvement practices.
• Strong security capabilities including vulnerability management, hardening, monitoring and incident response.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, administer and improve critical infrastructure platforms and services.
• Lead technical design activities for hybrid cloud environments, Azure and on‑premises.
• Drive automation, CI/CD pipelines, and operational improvements.
• Mentor teammates and promote best practices in infrastructure and security.
