Hamilton City Council is seeking a Systems Engineer to join the Digital Services - Cloud & Network Team to manage backup systems and patch management while overseeing the broader IT infrastructure.
You will support a Windows-based server environment with 150+ servers across on‑premises, private, and public clouds, using SCCM and ESX virtualization. Basic scripting is a plus, and strong communication is essential.
This position sits within the Digital Services division of the People, Performance and Culture group. The purpose of this group is to enable Hamilton City Council to become a leading, community-focused council by helping teams prioritise important work, ensuring they have the right systems, processes, and tools, and improving the way they work.
Joining the Digital Services - Cloud & Network Team you will be working with a variety of individuals including business users, internal and external customers, application developers and project leaders with a primary focus on large-scale systems, applications, databases, and reports leveraging multiple tools, processes, and technologies.
As one of our Systems Engineers your primary responsibility will be managing, reviewing, and automating Council's backup systems, system patching, and patch management processes, alongside monitoring Council's broader IT infrastructure systems, networks, and processes. The main tasks will include ensuring that backup, recovery, and system SLA targets are met, driving automated patch deployment workflows, maintaining information security, and ensuring functional integrity, performance, capacity, and high availability.
You will oversee and manage daily activities related to infrastructure. More specifically, you will support a Windows-based server environment with more than 150 servers, including on-premises, private, and public cloud setups. You will work with ESX virtualization and SCCM and while basic scripting skills are beneficial, they are not essential. You should have knowledge and experience in troubleshooting user issues within a Windows environment, such as access problems, account issues, and using the event viewer. Additionally, you will need to have the ability to learn new skills and technologies.
Circa NZD 95K dependent on skills and experience.
