Quest Apartment Hotels – Auckland, North Island
This is a varied, hands‑on role as Maintenance and Facilities Lead for a multi‑property hotel group. You will take responsibility for the day‑to‑day maintenance and upkeep of properties across two hotels in Auckland and one hotel in New Plymouth, while also supporting larger refurbishment and capital works projects. You will work closely with the Group Head of Property and hotel management teams to ensure properties are well maintained, safe, compliant and presented to a high standard.
Key responsibilities
- Carrying out general repairs and preventative maintenance across hotel rooms, common areas and back‑of‑house spaces
- Developing and maintaining planned and preventative maintenance programmes, identifying maintenance requirements before they become operational problems
- Painting, plaster patching, preparation and general building repairs to a high standard of finish
- Undertaking minor plumbing and fixture repairs where a licensed trade is not required
- Repairing, assembling, installing and replacing furniture, fixtures and equipment (FF&E)
- Identifying maintenance issues early and determining whether repair or replacement is the most commercially sensible long‑term solution
- Managing maintenance equipment, tools, stock and work areas
- Coordinating external tradespeople, contractors and consultants where specialist or licensed work is required, and helpful in developing and maintaining a reliable network of preferred contractors and suppliers across the Group
- Obtaining quotes, comparing solutions and assisting with the preparation and management of maintenance, FF&E and capital expenditure budgets
- Assisting with hotel refurbishment projects including room upgrades, bathrooms, kitchens, flooring, painting, FF&E replacement and wider building works
About you
- Has strong practical maintenance and repair skills and is comfortable thinking on their feet
- Can quickly diagnose an operational problem and, where necessary, implement a safe temporary solution that enables a hotel room or facility to remain operational
- Has good painting, preparation and general maintenance skills and takes pride in achieving a professional standard of finish
- Is confident diagnosing problems and finding practical solutions
- Understands when a job can be completed internally and when a licensed or specialist contractor is required
- Can manage multiple jobs and priorities across different properties
- Is organised, follows established processes and maintains good records
- Has strong attention to detail
- Has a commercial mindset and considers the cost, quality and longevity of repair versus replacement
- Holds a current driver’s licence and is able to travel periodically to New Plymouth as required
