Job summary

Fullers360 in Auckland, New Zealand, is seeking an experienced Deckhand to Skipper to join our team and deliver exceptional customer experiences on our ferry fleet.

You will lead deck operations, perform engine room checks, and train junior crew while upholding high safety and presentation standards. This role offers progression from Deckhand to Skipper and supports SRL high‑speed endorsements.

Qualifications

• This role requires a current NZ SRL ticket with up to 24 m endorsements and a high‑speed passenger endorsement is desirable.
• Applicants must hold a valid seafarer medical and a current First Aid certificate.
• Minimum two years' experience in a similar deck role and a strong focus on customer service.

Reporting to the Crew Development Manager, you'll be an integral part of ensuring our crew are trained and operating at a high standard. Responsible for all deck duties on board, you'll also ensure the crew are trained and operating at a high standard. You'll be a real champion of the customer experience and motivate your crew to go above and beyond.

This role offers a direct pathway for career progression, with the opportunity to advance from Deckhand to Skipper. As a Maritime New Zealand-approved training provider, Fullers360 can also support you in gaining your SRL High Speed endorsement.

Duties

• Lead and influence the customer experience onboard
• Provide outstanding customer service in our bar and café
• Taking responsibility for all aspects of deck work
• Completing engine room checks
• Handling lines in all weather conditions
• Lead of safety on the vessels
• Provide training and guidance to our junior crew

Skills & Experience:

• You must hold a current New Zealand SRL ticket (Skipper Restricted Limits) with endorsements for vessels up to 24 meters, and large Passenger numbers (High Speed Endorsement desirable)
• You will hold a current seafarer medical
• Current First Aid Certificate
• You will have a minimum 2 years' experience in a similar role
• You pride yourself on providing an outstanding customer experience
• You have a proven track record and ability to successfully lead and support your crew
• You will have a high level of maturity, and ability to work under pressure
• You pride yourself on your high standard of personal presentation
