Job summary

Crescent Consulting in Timaru is seeking a Systems Engineer who can manage client environments, assist with technology decisions, and deliver measurable business outcomes. The role requires hands-on Microsoft 365, desktop and server skills, plus strong communication to explain technical matters to non-technical clients.

You'll work directly with local businesses, handle first-line through to level 3 issues, set up networks, and contribute to security and upgrades.

Qualifications

• Hands-on Microsoft 365, desktop and server skills.
• Real networking experience with routers, switches, firewalls and VPNs.
• Solid grasp of network security and best practices.
• Familiarity with Fortinet, Cisco, Meraki or similar gear.
• Some exposure to virtualization and cloud environments.
• Clear English communication to explain issues to clients.

Responsibilities

• Support businesses across Timaru and South Canterbury, from first-line fixes to level 3 problems.
• Set up and manage networks including routers, switches, firewalls and VPNs.
• Plan and carry out network upgrades across client environments.
• Identify and fix issues that slow or risk a business, ensuring long-term stability.
• Explain technical concepts in plain language to business owners.
• Maintain documentation and keep clients informed throughout.
