Job summary

myITmanager is seeking a Senior Engineer to join our Christchurch team on-site. You will design, implement, and maintain secure, resilient IT infrastructures for SMB clients, with a strong focus on cyber security best practices.

You will mentor junior engineers, document solutions, and contribute to continuous improvement in service delivery. You will collaborate closely with clients to understand their business needs, monitor system performance, address incidents, and help deploy modern tools

Role Description A Senior Engineer at myITmanager is a full-time, on-site role based in Christchurch. This role is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining secure and resilient IT infrastructures for small and mid-sized business clients, with a strong focus on cyber security best practices. Day-to-day tasks include managing servers and networks, monitoring system performance, responding to incidents and service requests, and proactively addressing potential risks and vulnerabilities. The Senior Engineer collaborates closely with clients to understand their business needs, advises on technology roadmaps, and leads the deployment of modern tools and solutions that enhance productivity and reliability. This position also involves mentoring junior team members, documenting solutions and procedures, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives across service delivery.

Qualifications

• Strong technical expertise in infrastructure and systems, such as Windows and Linux server administration, virtualization platforms, networking fundamentals, and cloud services (e.g., Microsoft 365, Azure).
• Demonstrated experience in cyber security and resilience, including security best practices, endpoint protection, backup and disaster recovery, and monitoring/alerting tools.
• Proficiency in managed IT services and support, including service desk escalation handling, troubleshooting complex issues, and managing user access, devices, and applications.
• Experience implementing and supporting modern workplace solutions, such as collaboration platforms, remote access technologies, and automation or scripting for efficiency.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose issues, propose practical solutions, and communicate technical information clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to work effectively on-site with clients in Christchurch, manage multiple priorities, and collaborate as part of a small, agile team.
• Relevant industry certifications (e.g., Microsoft, CompTIA, Cisco, security certifications) and previous experience in an MSP or similar environment are highly beneficial.
• Prior experience in a senior or lead engineering role, including mentoring or coaching less experienced colleagues, is an advantage.
