Job summary

C3 Building Compliance is seeking a Building Compliance Technician for our Tauranga head office, with remote considered for the right person. You will process residential consents and COAs, making defensible technical calls and contributing to process improvements.

Based in Tauranga, you may work remotely part-time or full-time for a candidate who can attend the Tauranga office regularly. Local candidates are preferred, with flexibility for occasional in-office work.

Qualifications

• Residential 2 competency or equivalent with potential sign-off
• NZ tertiary qualification satisfying Regulation 18
• Ability to work through complex or non-standard applications
• Clear, professional dealings with applicants

C3 Building Compliance is growing, and we're adding a Building Compliance Technician to our processing team.

We're selective about who we bring on, because we invest heavily in the people we do. If you're assessed to R2 competency or close enough to be signed off quickly, and you want to work somewhere your technical judgement is trusted and you can progress, we should talk.

About the role

We process residential Building Consents and Certificates of Acceptance on behalf of councils across New Zealand, and our volumes are growing. We're expanding the technical team to match.

Who we are

C3 Building Compliance specialises in simplifying the building consent process. We work for councils and alongside architects, developers and builders across New Zealand. We're known for a pragmatic approach, extensive technical knowledge, and for treating consenting as a problem to be solved rather than a queue to be managed.

Our Tauranga head office is modern, spacious and has ample parking. It's also where our technical knowledge gets shared over desks, not over email.

What you'll be doing

• Processing residential building consent applications accurately and within statutory timeframes
• Processing Certificate of Acceptance (COA) applications
• Making sound, defensible technical calls and documenting them properly
• Contributing to how we improve our process, tools and templates

What we're looking for

• Competency: Assessed to Residential 2 (R2) competency for consent processing as a minimum or the experience and evidence to be assessed and signed off quickly
• Qualifications: A relevant NZ tertiary qualification that satisfies Regulation 18 of the BCA accreditation regulations
• Technical judgement: The ability to work through a complex or non-standard application and reach a defensible position without needing it escalated
• Communication: Clear, professional dealings with applicants — including delivering an unwelcome answer well
• Time management: Strong organisation and the discipline to manage a live workload against statutory clocks
• Tech confidence: Comfortable in modern digital tools and consent management systems

Advantageous

• COA processing experience
• Prior BCA or council processing experience
• A design or wider construction background

Location and working arrangement

Our preference is genuinely for someone local. Being in the office is how technical knowledge moves around a team like ours, and it's the fastest way to get a new team member up to speed and confidently assessed.

That said, for a candidate who is already competent and can demonstrate they can work independently, we will consider a fully remote arrangement on the basis that you attend/commit to coming into our Tauranga office regularly.
