Job summary

Waikato District Councils is seeking an experienced Senior/Building Control Officer Processing to join our Building Unit in Thames. This permanent, full-time role focuses on accurate assessment of building consent applications and delivering expert guidance to applicants and stakeholders.

You will ensure compliance with the Building Act 2004 and NZ Building Code, manage timeframes, and contribute to safe, compliant, and fit-for-purpose homes across the district.

Qualifications

• Experience in Building Consent Processing or Building Control within a New Zealand local government environment.
• An appropriate qualification in Building Control (or currently working towards this).
• Sound knowledge of the Building Act 2004, New Zealand Building Code and associated regulations.
• Proven ability to interpret legislation and apply it in a practical and consistent way
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships and provide professional advice
• Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and computer literacy
• Excellent time management and the ability to work within statutory timeframes
• A commitment to continuous learning and professional development

Responsibilities

We have an opportunity for an experienced Building Control Officer Processing to join our Building Unit in a permanent, full-time position based in our Thames office.

You will play a key role in ensuring building consent applications are assessed accurately and efficiently, helping to ensure homes and buildings across our district are safe, compliant, and fit for purpose. Your expertise will be valued as you navigate complex applications, provide sound technical advice, and support positive outcomes for customers and stakeholders.
