Job summary

Mobeco Group B.V. seeks a senior naval architect to lead governance and regulatory compliance for safe, class-approved superyacht designs.

You coordinate with internal teams, shipyards, and external partners to ensure buildability and compliance throughout engineering, construction, and delivery. You will interpret flag state regulations and international codes, manage classification interfaces, mentor juniors, and support surveys and statutory processes across the project lifecycle.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Naval Architecture or Naval Engineering.
  • At least 7 years of experience in yacht or shipbuilding.
  • Strong knowledge of superyachts regulations, classification standards, and international codes, REG yacht codes advantageous.
  • Proven experience with large yachts and/or commercial vessels.
  • Hands-on experience with working directly with classification and flag administrations.
  • Solid understanding of shipyard constraints and yacht production processes.
  • Strong technical judgment, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership.
  • Excellent communication in English; written and spoken.
  • Eligibility to work in the Netherlands.

Responsibilities

  • Acting as the primary technical point of contact for all naval architecture-related matters, including providing on-site support when required;
  • Coordinating effectively with internal teams, shipyards, and external stakeholders to ensure aligned project execution;
  • Serving as the main interface with external naval architecture companies, coordinating their scope, deliverables, and schedules;
  • Reviewing, coordinating, and verifying calculations and technical packages prepared by external parties, ensuring alignment with shipyard standards, project requirements, and applicable regulations;
  • Ensuring consistency and technical integrity across externally developed naval architecture deliverables, without performing detailed in-house calculations;
  • Interpreting flag state regulations, international codes, and classification requirements, translating them into clear, practical, and buildable design solutions;
  • Managing communication and coordination with classification societies and flag administrations throughout the approval process;
  • Identifying regulatory and compliance risks early, initiating and driving corrective actions to maintain project conformity;
  • Supporting surveys, approvals, and statutory processes across the full project lifecycle;
  • Taking ownership of the weight monitoring process, ensuring accurate tracking and reporting of weight status;
  • Providing technical input for dock plans, launching operations, and transport activities to support safe and efficient execution;
  • Performing inclining tests and validating stability-related results;
  • Mentoring junior naval architects and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated and optimized design solutions;

The senior naval architect leads technical governance and regulatory compliance to deliver safe, feasible, and fully class-approved superyacht designs.

As a senior naval architect, you ensure technically sound, compliant, and buildable superyacht designs by coordinating external partners, aligning stakeholders, and safeguarding regulatory approval, while maintaining strong on-site involvement throughout engineering, construction, and delivery phases.

This client is a leading Northern European shipbuilder specializing in the design, engineering, and construction of complex, custom-built luxury vessels, combining traditional craftsmanship with advanced technology to deliver highly bespoke projects for an international clientele with exacting standards.

The senior naval architect brings,

  • A bachelor’s degree in Naval Architecture or Naval Engineering;
