General Overview
Summary

The Staff Engineer, Hardware Design works with cross functional teams with other designers, customers, manufacturing engineering and project leadership to ensure robust and high quality product development. Enhance designs with feedback from reviews in areas such as manufacturing, test, supply chain, reliability, industrial design and simulations. Provide support throughout the manufacturing process of the electrical/mechanical system that they have designed. #LI-LX1

Detailed Description

Performs tasks such as, but not limited to, the following:

  • Maintain the process within the team
  • Keep the PCB team output at high quality
  • Lead planning a set of PCBs design at RFQ and planning stage, balance feasibility and cost
  • Accurate estimate PCB design effort and schedule
  • Lead peer review, manager review, and cross site review
  • Capable to lead a complex (server, storage, switch) PCB design.
  • Capable top-down the PCB design from Planning to detail PCB design.
  • Capable supervises other designers and helps to troubleshoot and solve CAD software problems.
  • Maintains PCB design integrity through updates and records of changes.
  • Be the key interface, meets with project team leaders, designers, customer and suppliers
  • The designer must be able to initiate and lead activities to improve the design process and increase the efficiency of the design tools.
  • Evaluates, recommends and tests CAD software and other programs necessary for PC design.
  • Seeks out new approaches for building internal and external relationships; maintains contacts with existing relationships
  • Understand electrical/SI/PI/power mechanical/thermal constraints, select the best strategy for layout implementation.
  • Active RF, Power, Analog experience is a plus;
  • Running SI/PI tools, drive the results is a plus.
  • Extensive computer and ECAD tools knowledge;
  • Cadence Allegro V17.x preferred
  • In-depth knowledge of electronics and printed circuit board design;
  • In-depth knowledge of fabrication, assembly and test processes, including use of Valor’s Enterprise tool - Diagnose and prioritize issues and solve design related problems.
  • Communicate with internal/external customers and supplier.
  • Communications – logically, clear, concise, both written and spoken.
  • Top down and details orientated. - Drive issues to root cause, logical problem solving.
  • Aggressively drive tasks independently and to seek out information internally, externally.
  • Lead a complex project PCBs design, up to 56 layers, 56G/112G/224G.
  • Top-down (Breakdown) the PCB design from Planning to detail PCB design.
  • Supervises designers and troubleshooting and solving software problems.
Physical Demands
  • Duties of this position are performed in a normal office environment.
  • Duties may require extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or on numbers and other detailed data.
  • Repetitive manual movements (e.g., data entry, using a computer mouse, using a calculator, etc.) are frequently required.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
Typical Experience
  • Min 5 years’ direct experience in complex PCB design, 8 and plus years preferred;
Typical Education

Bachelor degree or consideration of an equivalent combination of education and experience.
